He was the web Master of TARA, and on and on.... Amateur Radio has lost one of it's best. You will always be in our hearts, Ernie & Fran wm2u Arizona.

When NY2U had to leave a couple of years ago, the silence on 145.17 was deafening. Recently, we got to hear that cheerful voice again, and I hoped he had recovered and was back for good. Then I worried about him when his mom died. Now we don't have to worry anymore, but once again, the silence is deafening. What a great guy! We will all miss him terribly, and remember how he brightened so many lives. 73 Mr. Bill. You've left this world a better place. - Peter, W2BEW

Billy was one heck of a great guy. I will always hold him dear in my heart. After his accident we spent many months almost a year at the hospital visiting 2-3 times a week, me my sister Linda and Gary Stillman. He endured so much and made a wonderful life . We spent many summers at the house on Wayne St with Howard and Billy, Howard whipping us up some Cape Cod favorite drinks. Its amamzing the wonderful bond he and his mother had and he must have decided he want to go be with her. Love ya Bill.

It was an absolute privilege to have known Mr. Bill, NY2U. I met him back in 1985 when I was a student at RPI. His enthusiasm for amateur radio could only be matched by his ability to bring together a cohesive group of diverse ham radio hobbyists, not as a club, but as a family. He was the driving force behind TARA, the Troy Amateur Radio Association and fostered a sense that transcended the idea that this was just another club. Because of his leadership, the group became a family with a true sense of community and caring. Nobody typifies this ideal better than the club's current president, Karen Smith (KS2O) and her husband Mac. Their compassion for Mr. Bill in helping him through the last difficult year of his life is a testament to Bill's legacy. This meant so much to Bill's family and Bill's extended ham radio family, for we all knew that Bill was never truly alone.

Mr. Bill and I would jokingly talk on the phone frequently about the "NY2U Institute" and discuss the status of the nuclear reactor he was building in his basement. We spoke of how RPI was contributing to the project and that the reactor would come online soon and fulfill the "Institute's" destiny. We had so much fun discussing these lofty goals. While Mr. Bill was not really a nuclear engineer, I've met few people with a bigger heart and knack for bringing people together, forming a community. I know that he will never be forgotten and that the ham radio family he founded will cherish his memory and honor him forever.

We love and miss you Mr. Bill.

I cannot think of anyone who has fostered the hobby more than Bill. He's been one of the greatest of friends one could hope for and a role model. His conversations with my daughter on the radio were fun and educational for her as well.

You will be missed by everyone Bill, but you will certainly never leave our hearts.

Rest in peace my friend.

The passing of Mr. Bill, NY2U, is a tremendous loss for TARA as well as for the amateur radio community as a whole. Some of us will remember how Mr. Bill was a founding member of TARA that started with meetings I believe in his garage and grew to one of the major forces in the capital region amateur radio community. Even when he was in convalescence in recent years he presence was still felt - and will continue to be felt - at club meetings, Field Day and club outings like the summer picnics and public service events.

Let us continue his legacy as what we truly are. A FAMILY!
