Nicholas Champitto Obituary

CHAMPITTO, NICHOLAS TROY - Nicholas V. Champitto Sr., age 77, husband of Patricia Vanier Champitto and the late Diane Guild Champitto, died on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late John and Laura Debell Champitto. He attended Troy schools and was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School, Class of 1953. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. Nick worked for more than 40 years for Champitto's Food and Equipment Co. in the Lansingburgh section of Troy, retiring as General Sales Manager in 1996. He was a longtime communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill, a lifetime member and past commissioner of the Wynantskill Volunteer Fire Dept., a longtime member and past commander of the Wynantskill American Legion #1489, a longtime member of the Troy Lodge of Elks, #141, a member of the VFW Post #6203 in North Port, Fla., a member of AMVETS Post #0312 in Florida and a member of the Veterans of Lansingburgh, Inc. Survivors in addition to his wife include his children, Lisa (Marvin) Derks of North Greenbush, Tina (Sean) Albert of Wynantskill, Laura Bodnar of Clifton Park, Nicholas (Diane) Champitto Jr of East Schodack, Patrick Champitto of Venice, Fla. and Amy Champitto of Rensselaer, his 6 grandchildren, his sisters and brother, Mary (the late John) Decetise of North Greenbush and Lauretta (the late Vincent) Busone and Frank (the late Agnes) Champitto, both of North Port, Fla. He is predeceased by his sisters, Beatrice Manning, Genevieve Lupretta and infant Nancy Champitto and his brothers, John and Felix Champitto. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be from the Thomas S. Connolly Funeral Home, 294 Whiteview Rd., Wynantskill on Thursday at 8:45 A.M. and at 9:30 A.M. from St. Jude the Apostle Church, Wynantskill where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor. Calling hours will be at the funeral home Wednesday, August 31 from 4 to 7 P.M. Contributions to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd, Rensselaer, NY 12144 and/or the Wynantskill Volunteer Fire Dept, P.O. Box 99, Wynantskill, NY 12198 in memory of Nick would be appreciated.
