I think of Ellen often. We shared so many memories and experiences in the 60 years I knew her beginning with shared home ec classes at Hood College and continuing with reunions at Hood and several other locations where we gathered with classmates. We also shared two dresses! I think of her every time I use a store-bought pie crust. She would not approve!

Ellen & Stu were our next door neighbors in Hawaii. She & I kept each other company when the men were at sea. We had great adventures including being leaders of a senior Girl Scout troop. A great friend when I needed her.

So long big Sister. I will forever remember and cherish the days you read me Winnie The Pooh and when you pushed me around in this stroller like a son. You were and will always be there for me. I love and will miss you terribly. You've left us far too soon and filled all of our hearts with nothing but loving memories. Be at peace. Love, Steve

Stu. - I was so surprised to read that Ellen has passed away! I didn't know that she was sick! I guess that we have lost touch since 'my Denny' passed away! I can't tell me how sorry that I am! Maybe they can get together in heaven and reminisce about old times! I feel like Denny is still with me in many ways as I imagine you will feel that Ellen is with you! Fondly Jean

Stu, We just learned today from Dick Martin that Ellen had recently passed away, and send you and yours our deepest condolences. We much enjoyed having lunch with both of you in Tucson at the Chula Vista restaurant and gardens a few years ago. And will always remember her as a lovely person, and as Dick says--a class act!
Best to you always and stay in touch,

A Marvelousus historian, genealogist, writer, always anxious to share her time with all. Despite her long fight with ALS, she remained in high spirits and in constant touch with our close group of "Hoodlums". I will greatly miss our frequent contact and annual get togethers. Heartfelt condolences to Stu and his family. She is gone too soon.

Our time, the 1980's, on ISRO and in Hancock were graced by Ellen and Stu. Cool clear days of blueberry picking, the wonderful potlucks, days on the beaches sifting sand, shared stories and cups of tea, traded recipes and sewing secrets, watching our children grow..... all beautiful and cherished memories! Love from Bruce, Kathy, Lena, & Susanna

Stu - Ron and I are devistated over Ellen's passing. She was a wonder sister-in-law and did so many things for us - genealogy of our families, making things for us and always there for us. We will miss her terribly. Perry thank you for being there for Stu and your kindness to me. It meant a lot.

Ellen and Stuart were active participants in The Tucson Museum of Art League in the 90's. Those of us who knew them appreciated their countless hours of volunteer work which helped in the success of our designer showhouses. We are saddened to hear of her passing.

Stu, my condolences on your loss. Ellen and I go back to second grade in Lida Lee Tall School. When we had to choose dancing partners she was the one I sought out. I think we had the same piano teacher; I remember playing duets with her. I remember a pendant she wore, a tiny tropical scene, palm tree against an orange sunset. And, Stu, of course I remember you and the other kids on Hastings Road. I am so happy for your long life together, and so sorry for your loss.

Ellen was my Big Sister at Hood College and guided me through the Freshman year. We maintained contact over the years with Ellen helping with my genealogy and having email conversations. I always looked forward
to the Croll's Christmas cards so I could catch up with their busy life. Ellen was gentle, kind and loving with many talents-a lovely person and it was an honor to have her as a friend.

Such an incredibly giving soul, a gentle spirit. Thank you for sharing your home, your time, and your book.
I first met Ellen through a letter she sent to Scott. He and I worked together at North Cascades National Park. In July 1989, Scott was helping me complete a project along Ross Lake. Once, when I hiked in to meet him, I brought his mail, which included a letter from home, from Ellen. This is from my journal on that day: "Above May Creek...(Scott reads) a letter from his mom. A wonderful smile across his face...you could see that he loved her as much as any child can love their mother."
