I have since moved out of town and I have found places to walk, but I have yet to find the kind of people here that embody the spirit of Sid and the rest of the park people that became friends.

Sid, MAZELTOV, thanks to you I've picked up a liking of wine. Beer I've had to learn on my own.
We miss your wit.

Syd was the leader of several Grand Cannon trips I had the pleasure to be part of. A fine guy, with a zest for life and the out of doors. Great memories and lots of laughs.
My sympathy to his family. A good man
May his memory bring joy to all.

My parents always took us to Hirsh´s shoes. My long and narrow feet presented a real challenge. Mr. Hirsh was always so kind and tried to find the most stylish shoes available in my size. I have such fond memories of the store and wonderful Mr. Hirsh. My heart goes out to his family. May his memory always be a blessing.

As a teenage dancer in the 1970s & college student who took ballet classes at the UA for fun in the 1980s, I was always impressed with the specialists he hired to sell his dancewear.
After not being in Hirsh's for at least a decade, I ran into Sid in the most unexpected of places in about 2001/2002. On a cold winter day, a friend and I went on a Sierra Club hike from where Speedway dead ends at the base of the Rincons to Mica Mountain. We started at dawn and returned back to flat land just after it became pitch-black. It's over a 20-mile hike. Plus there was a lot of snow. I remember complaining to my friend that some top gun at the front was pushing the group to go too fast and bushwhaking too much. We were scaring the white-tailed deer, & my winter leggings (& my legs) were getting ripped up by rough branches & thorns every time we went off the trail. I was exhausted by the time we finished our hike, and I tripped & fell to the ground for my finale. When I popped up like a spring to pretend that nothing had happened, Sid walked over to me to ask if I was okay. He was about 70 years old, and I was about 40. He had 30 years on me, but he was the one racing up and down the mountain.
We became better acquainted with each other when I opened a store in Broadway Village about 5 years later. He was very supportive and, from time to time, I would go sit in his wonderful, dusty office plastered with decades of newspaper clippings. He had great stories about Tucson's past and very strong political opinions, most of which I agreed with.
When I closed my store, I missed gabbing with him. Unfortunately, I didn't visit him enough after that.
He did indeed have a good life, and I'm sure he's bushwhacking from one end of Heaven to the other!

My heartfelt regards to Sid's love of his life, Marsha and his family. I am reeling for their loss because someone such as Sid is one of a kind. Sid was a wonderful and kind man who befriended me while walking at the park and Marsha was gracious to allow me into their home. All of us park buddies missed him when he moved, but always thought that we would see him again. . . Covid came. We will miss him all the more now.

No visit to Tucson was ever complete without joining my Uncle Sid on a morning walk in the desert. I cherish the wonderful stories and engaging conversation that bubbled up as we rambled along the trail. He inspired me to start running in college and to run my first race in the Saguaro National Park so many years ago. I have been running ever since and I hope I will be as active as my Uncle Sid in both body and spirit in the years to come. Thank you, Uncle Sid, for being such a great model of a life well-lived!

Going to Hirsh's Shoes was a sign that school was about to start. Mr. Hirsh was always so nice. I also knew daughter Leslie. I will never forget visiting their home after school - modern furniture and Israeli folk music on the record player. Warm wishes to Mrs. Hirsh and the family.

In the 1950s several pairs of my own shoes came from Hirsh's, & my own son's first two pairs of white high tops were bought there by Grandma in the 1980s. I never figured out the games he played at nap time.
