Del JONES Obituary

JONES, Del A Tucson Treasure Dolores "Del" Jones passed away on July 8. 2017 at the age of 90. She was with family and friends at the time of her peaceful passing in the Catalina Foothills. Not only has she been called a Tucson Treasure by many, she was a treasure to her family, her friends, her colleagues, and her community. All are saddened by her passing. She has been referred to as a mentor, companion, the great connector, a force of nature, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and an inspiration to all. Her 35 years of dedicated work for the support of wellness, peace, aging, kindness, and so many more causes and organizations, will leave a legacy to our community that will last for decades. Del was born on October 2, 1926, in Ridley Park, PA. She married the love of her life, Merle Jones, on October 6, 1945, in Drexel Hill, PA. After a 71 years of marriage, Del is survived by her husband, Merle; sons, Jeff, Steve, and Scott, along with nine grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. A memorial life celebration service will be held at St. Frances in the Foothills United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. The address is 4625 E. River Road in Tucson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution to one of Del's many non-profit causes. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.

Del created the Partnership Way Center based on Riane Eisler's book The Chalice and the Blade. I was on the Board, and we did wonderful work throughout the community having to do with partnership. We had conferences and workshops as well as taught in college classrooms. Del was such an energetic and loving woman. She wanted to move our society forward, and she did!

Del influenced so many of us in timeless and happy ways. Del was a woman of heart and wisdom, with such kindness at her core. May her family, friends and our community be comforted. There is great sadness...but I also believe Del lives on, in a legacy impacting the people and worthy programs within our communities.

Visionary, a role model of community caring, nurturing, inspiring, politically incorrect in the best possible way, truth-teller, lover of friends and family, thoughtful, kind, generous...take the positive descriptors of a thesaurus and you will describe Del. She volunteered on my board, was a wonderful supporter and great networker. I will miss her in person, but her essence will always remain with me.

Yes, she was a Tucson Treasure and we celebrate her life among us. We regret that we will be out-of-town on the day of her memorial service and want to thank Del's family for sharing her with us all these years. Del Jones, Presente!
