Margaret RAU Obituary

RAU, Margaret Josephine The lovely and bright light in the Rau family has passed to the next round of her tournament with ovarian cancer! She has gone toe to toe with the biggest advisory of her life for the past 15 years and faced it with courage, determination and the most positive will to overcome! Those same attributes will endure with her family! She was born May 9, 1962 to her very proud parents, David McCarty (passed 4/6/2009) and Francis McCarty (92 and still kickin)….She was number 10 of 12 siblings, so naturally she was a 10 the day she was born! Her husband of 28 years fell for her immediately and has been there with her throughout her journey, but most important to her were her two incredible children who not only were by her side but kept her focused and determined during her chemo treatments and recovery days, daughter, Kelsie Rau and son, Jay Rau Jr (JJ), both live in Tucson. She and Jay were married at Hill AFB on October 14, 1989. She obtained her Mechanical Engineering Degree from Weber State University and when Jay left the Air force, they returned to Tucson so she could begin her engineering career. She worked for a number of civil engineering firms, in fact if you are reading this in Vail or Rita Ranch, odds are she designed and named the streets in your neighborhood. She found her home with NPL. Where she displayed her rock-solid work ethic and loyalty to her employer and coworkers! She was an avid cycler and played on a number of city league volleyball teams which she was dedicated to until she was physically unable to participate, but lifelong friendships were established! Her bright smile and infectious laugh will be missed. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY & CEMETERY.

I met Peggy through my parents, Doug and Gini Noyce. I got to know Peggy when she came to parties at our home. As their oldest daughter, I was very impressed by the young women like Peggy, who were beautiful, strong, independent working women--a great influence on the young adult I was at the time. I did not get to know her as well as my folks had, but she was always sweet and kind to me, and I've carried that memory of her. We met again briefly, around the time my Dad returned to Tucson, in early 2006 or so. I knew some of what she had gone through, and she seemed to face it with courage and humor. She even met my young daughter Sacha, and let her play with her pet ferret. She loved children and animals, and I know she will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Rest in Peace, Peggy. <3

God blessed her in so many ways. May her kindness, respect and care for others be forever in our thoughts and memories of her. She learned compassion humility and courage through her affliction. What a beautiful example she leaves for us to follow. God is great and truly works all things for good for those who love Him. We pray that she will experience the sight of the glorified Christ. Thank you Peggy for always helping me when we worked with Ron Petz at AmericaBuilt. You also was very helpful to my husband Rick. Our sincerest Condolences at this very difficult time. May your gracious memories of her last your lifetime.

Met Peggy while still building the Tucson Mall in 1983. She and Connie worked together at Penny's. We became friends at Fat Chance Bar & Grille, and along with 20 other friends, became the "Fat Chance Coon Dog Club" (Don't ask) we all became close and took camping trips together, boating trips, tubing trips, parties, just things close friends do together. In 1985, when the mall was completed, I went to work for a local school district as Construction Supervisor, and I hired Peggy as my Admin Assistant, while she put herself through school. She was a great worker. After my contract with the district ended I went to work for the Army Corps of Engineers, and moved to California, and she moved to Utah for school, and we lost touch for many years. I moved back to Tucson in 2005, and we connected again, and I met her husband and daughter Kelsie. I also learned of the battles she fought and won at a cost. I knew what this was, as I lost my own wife during this time away, after 30 years of marriage. Peggy was a great friend, she had a way of making me laugh at the silliest things. I will miss her, as I am sure all who knew her will. Enjoy the journey 'Pegasus', say 'Hi' to Gini if you happen to run into her! Farewell friend, see you soon!

Loss of a loved one is a difficult endeavor but the memories we create together are portable and last with every breath we take. When I see African Daisies I know my mom is looking over me, when a butterfly lands on my shoulder it is my dad looking in on me. It is comforting in a way, that there is more to life than the surface things that we often take for granted.

My condolences for your loss.

My thoughts and prayers to Jay, Kelsie, and JJ during this time of loss. Your mom is an angel and has always been an angel here on Earth. What a blessing I was given, the opportunity to have known such a wonderful woman, wife, mom, daughter, sister, aunt, and friends to many is priceless. Rest in Peace Peg and let the wind carry you as you bike through the heavens.
