Irene and Family: My heart breaks for your loss. Monte was a wonderful man. It took me awhile before I could add to this guest book, because words cannot express how I truly feel. Some of my happiest memories in my past include you all - Irene, Monte and family. The vacations we took, the times we spent together - I will cherish always. What I remember most is the fierce love Monte had for his family - It is one of a kind. You as a family were truly blessed to have him for such a short time. I was honored to have known such a wonderful man. May God comfort you all until we meet Monte in heaven again......

Monte always had a friendly smile and a handshake for his buddies at the Arizona National Guard. As an MP Monte was a stand up guy and a great soldier. It was always a pleasure to be with him on drills and summer camps. As a TPD police officer Monte was a prototype of a trusted peace officer. He was a great role model for young Latinos and his buddies. At ease Monte.

My tata was an amazing man who was loved by so mamy. There isn't a summer I don't remember spending with him and my nana in the mountains. We always stopped at the same restaurant to eat and he pulled over at the same road just before Trout Creek to grab a drink to celebrate our arrival. I remember when we were younger my tata loved to call us and say he was Little Johnny, the neighbor. We always knew it was him but he kept on talking and would never admit to us it was him. I have so many memories with my tata and I owe much of my success in school and in life to him. I wouldn't have been able to finish college without him or my nana. There was never anything I needed because he took such good care of me. Just a few months ago the alternator in my Jeep went out and he came right into town to make sure I got the best price for a new one. I didn't have to ask, he just came. But that was Tata, he had a big heart and always did what he could for everyone. I learned not to wash my car in the sun, how to check my oil, top off all the fluids in my car, and to cut my own fire wood. I think Julio, Joaquin, and I learned how to drive on his put-put (the Rhino). He loved driving around his property and all over Diamond Bell in it. There was something about going out to my Nana and Tata's house and having breakfast with them and enjoying their views from the front porch. Those are the memories I'll always cherish the most. I just want to say thank you Tata for all the love and happiness you gave me. I will always carry you with me in my heart and next year we'll be hunting for you!
I love you Tata!
I love you Nana!

My heartfelt condolences to Monte's family and friends. I am a retired City of Tucson employee and worked at the Tucson Police Dept. for 24 years. During that time I had the privilege of working with Monte and I, too, soon became a friend, due mostly to Monte's upbeat, easygoing and down-to earth personality. Until his retirement in 2008, I felt I was Monte's friend first and coworker second. I ran into Monte at Walmart last August, just as the heat of Tucson's hot summer days were beginning to wane. I remember Monte saying he was tired of Tucson's relentlessly hot summer days and how he would love to move to northern New Mexico because it was sooooo much cooler there during the summer. He said he'd just returned from a trip there and he was seriously thinking about packing up and moving! I'm glad he hadn't decided to move away from Tucson prior to August, 2016; it was great running into him ... Monte, you'll be missed more than you could know...

Monte was one of the finest people I have ever met in my entire life. It was always a joy to be around him. He was the most friendly and outgoing person. He always made people around him feel important, because he cared so much for others. Although I moved away from Tucson when I retired, I have never forgotten Monte. He will be sorely missed.
It is comforting to know he is looking down from heaven protecting us all.
