My sincere condolences to your family. May God "who comforts us in all our trials" (2 Cor 1:4) comfort you and your family at such a difficult time. I know God will help you to endure because he cares for you (1Peter 5 :7).

Mrs. Gallhouse was my 2nd grade teacher at St. Joes and a peer of my mother also. We were a large Catholic family and my mother was run ragged as teacher, mom, business owner with my Father's Mobile gas station and all the minutia of life.
I had a hard transition coming from Detroit and a rough time just trying to belong. I was blessed to have my Nana Katie as a constant ally and protector, but she was aged already and did so much for my mom that 80 year old women should be stepping away from at the end of life. Things like making lunch, help with homework just didn't happen. Life was hard, Mrs. Gallhouse did not excuse my responsibility, she'd just make it happen, even if I saw her frustrated, she never made me fell bad. She would just offer me 15 minutes after class to get homework done, tell me easy ways to prepare lunch for the 9 of us and help my Nana. She didn't discount my responsibility, she made sure I understood and valued it. She knew I treasured my Nana Katie deeply and reminded me to show that in my actions and words.
Simply she didn't expect less in class, sports, respect, our faith and the blessings we each had in the finer education.
I remember my 1st holy communion and how proud she was of all of us that fine March day as the sun shone on us filing into Mass. It was the culmination of the better part of that year, we were hers and she was giving us to God that day.
My faith and all it represents was formed by a few key rolmodels .
She was one, tough, kind, firm and proud. I am 53 and Grandmother of 4 and she still sits safely in my heart as I never forget her and never shall.
I pray you peace and the favor of our lord God, as it should be.
With tremendous respect and love, Kathy Gawne
