David Jeffrey Obituary

Jeffrey David Johnson, Sr. 67, of Tucson, AZ passed away on January 26th, 2010 after losing a long battle of lung cancer and pneumonia. Born November 3rd, 1942 to Marian and Virgil Johnson in Galesburg, Illinois. In 1944 his parents moved to Tucson, AZ for the drier climate. A graduate from Rincon High School he enlisted in the United States Navy from 1960-1962 and served on the USS Nicholas DDE449. After being Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Navy he went on to pursue his love of music. In 1962 he recorded his first 45 record with songs "Doin My Time" and "That Little Girl of Mine" on the Reneek Record label. In November of 1962 he received three stars in the Billboard review for both singles. With the excitement of his first release, in 1963 he went on to record his next record also on the Reneek label with songs "Flight 404" and "Movies #2". In November of that same year he received four stars for his self written song Flight 404 and three stars for Movies #2. His next release in 1964 was released on the Dewl Record label out of Phoenix, AZ with songs "I said it and I'm Glad" and "What's this World Coming To". In the late 1970's through the early eighties he made numerous radio jingles for a well known car dealership and western wear store. His deep baritone voice and uncanny resemblance to that of Johnny Cash and his amazing guitar skills landed him many playing opportunities throughout Arizona and New Mexico. He also during his long life worked for the railroad and worked many years for Montgomery Ward. He is survived by his loving wife, Beth; children, Dennis, Jeff Jr., Victoria, Timothy and Ashley; seven grandchildren, Tiffany, Alisha, Hannah, Ryan, Bryce, Zach and Logan; sister, Norma and brother-in-law, Frank as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his brother, Terry, father, Virgil; mother, Marian and son, Terry. Viewing and Services will be held Friday January 29, 2010 at EVERGREEN MORTUARY AND CEMETERY, 3015 North Oracle Road Tucson, AZ 85705 (520) 888-7470 starting at 1:00 p.m.

Dad I miss you so much. I know you are looking over us from above and will do all you can to keep us safe. I will make sure Logan knows all about his grandpa he never got to meet. You will not be forgotten and remembered always.

Dear Beth and Family, I wish we could be with you. Jeff was my hero - he introduced me to rock and roll when he would come stay with us during the summers! I am so glad I got to see him the last time we were out west. I know he has had a tough battle and has been so courageous through it all. Love, Barry and Charlotte Davis (Self)

Jeff was my favorite cousin and I have several childhood memories. He will be missed but grateful to have his legacy live on. If there ever was a second Johnny Cash it was him.
