Joyce Oresman Obituary

ORESMAN, Joyce, after 30 years in San Francisco and the bay area, Joyce Oresman died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the age of 79. Fighting a courageous battle with lung cancer for nearly five years, she was viewed by her friends and physicians alike as a marvel for her strength and ability to rebound from the maladies and taxing treatments she underwent. She passed early Thursday morning from cancer related complications with her children by her side. Raised in the Bronx (NYC) during the depression, she married her husband, Edward Oresman (deceased) in 1953 and moved to Tucson, Arizona where they lived and raised four children prior to moving to San Francisco in 1980. An avid reader and music enthusiast, she was also a wonderful cook who took home the 1st Place Blue Ribbon at the San Francisco County Fair for her stellar Matzo Ball soup. She spent the latter portion of her career as Office Manager for Peter Wells Press, a S.F. graphics printing house and spent her retirement years pursuing her interests - travel, science fiction novels, spending time with her grandchildren and enjoying movies and casinos. Joyce enjoyed life to the fullest and considered her friends, whether longtime or new, as part of her family. She never missed an opportunity to help people, improve a situation and to "make things nice." Joyce is survived by her children, Stacy (Martha), Terry (Teresa), Betty Pestoni (Armond) and Vincent (Mary) and her grandchildren, Lisa, Eddie, Aaron, Grace, Christy, Ethan, Keith, Armanda, Cole and Mikayla and an abundance of friends. Chapel Service, with Rabbi Eisen presiding, will be Sunday, March 13, 2011 at EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile, beginning at 3:30 p.m. Interment to follow in the Congregation Anshei Israel Section of Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that contributions in her honor be made to the Women's Cancer Resource Center, 5741 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland, CA 94609 or to the Snapdragon Book Foundation, 2133 Bering Drive, Houston, TX 77057.
