Anthony GRIBIZIS Obituary

GRIBIZIS, Anthony born on January 17, 1925 in Polichani, Albania, Antonis (Tony) Gribizis passed away peacefully on July 15, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. After defying communist rule and escaping Albania in 1949, Anthony worked in Greece to save money to emmigrate to the US. He came to America on the last boat into Ellis Island in 1954. It was in Portland, Maine where he met fellow Greek-Albanian, Olga Panos, who remained by his side until she passed in March 2017. Anthony moved to Tucson from Chicago in 1967 and raised his family around St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. Anthony is survived by sisters, Rodalia and Hrisanthi; his two daughters, Kathy (Harry Konst) and Pam (Gary Andros); three grandchildren, Nomiki (Konst), George (Andros) and Antonia (Andros). Anthony's spirit joins his wife, Olga and his parents, Kalianthi and Leonidas. His generous heart and courageous spirit will be carried on through the mark he left on others. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2017 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with a Trisagion Service at 6:30 p.m. at ANGEL VALLEY FUNERAL HOME. Funeral Service will be on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Anthony Gribizis Scholarship Fund, Tucson Order of AHEPA, P.O. Box 78665, Tucson, AZ 85705. Arrangements entrusted to ANGEL VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 520-327-6341.
