Cuava ATWOOD Obituary

ATWOOD, Cuava J. "Cue" died July 6, 2017 at Wesley Village, Wilmore, KY. Born June 2, 1932 in Marshall County, Kentucky, Cuava was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas C. and Flora Kennedy Atwood; a brother, Thomas, Jr.; and a nephew, Mark K. Atwood. She is survived by a brother, Ronald K. Atwood (Virginia) of Nicholasville; a sister, Alma Ashby Owen (Bobby) of Franklin, TN; nephew, Forrest W. Ashby of Phoenix, AZ; nieces, Dawn Atwood, Lake Placid, FL; Andrea Atwood, Gilbert, AZ; Sarah A. Graves (Keith), Franklin, TN; grandnephew, Ashley Sheikh of Toyko, Japan; grandnieces Hallie and Emily Graves of Franklin, TN and many beloved cousins and friends. Cuava was graduated from Augusta Tilghman High School and Paducah Junior College, Paducah, KY. She was a charter member of Berea Baptist Church in Paducah and was a member of First Baptist Church of Tucson, Arizona at the time of her death. She worked as bookkeeper at Equitable Life and at Hannan Supply in Paducah before moving to Tucson, AZ in 1960. She was employed by Encanto Drug Company until 1964 when she began working for the University of Arizona in the Comptroller's Office. Her love for the state of Arizona, especially the Catalina Mountains, and her U of A Wildcats was unsurpassed. She retired from the University as Manager of Accounts Payable in 1992. Due to failing health, she moved to Wesley Village to be near her family last year. She enjoyed the interaction with staff and residents there. In March she sustained injuries from a fall from which she could not recover. The family will be forever grateful to the caregivers of Wesley Village and Country Place Rehabilitation of Lexington for their devotion to her these past four months. Memorial Services will be held in Paducah, KY and in Tucson, AZ at later dates. Private graveside services will be held at Leonard Cemetery in Possum Trot, KY.
