Dr. Hollander took care of my parents for almost 40 years as their physician. He was the one who treated my mom for so many years with terrible migraines. He delivered the news to them that my mother had dementia. I went to him as a young adult, and would have kept going if I hadn't moved away. He was the doctor that I compared all others to. He was caring, gracious and professional. Thanks, Hollander Family, for lending him to the rest of us.

Arnold Hollander was one of the best physicians I ever knew. He and I both opened medical practices at the same office building in1969. Both of us had recently been discharged from military service. Arnie loved the practice of Medicine. I referred several patients to him. His evaluation and treatments were the best.

My husband and I also truly miss Dr Hollander. He was our doctor from 1991, the year we moved to Tucson, until his passing. I always knew he was a good doctor but I now appreciate just how great he really was, no one like him. We called him a friend too and as Thanksgiving approaches we are very thankful he was in our lives and that he took such good care of us. We´ve gone through several doctors since and I think we´ve finally found another one we can trust, but there will never be another Dr Hollander in our eyes.
May all your precious memories bring you joy and comfort.

It´s so heartwarming that, even after all these years, so many of you take the time to remember my father with such kind and thoughtful messages about what a wonderful doctor and friend he was. Thank you to everyone who contributes to this page. My family and I check it often, and your words truly mean the world to us.

Why oh why does Tucson Arizona not have another Doctor like Arnold Hollander. He was my parents doctor for all the years they lived in Tucson, My father a doctor from New York, and an Attorney and a member of the US Navy took it very seriously. Dr. Hollander diagnosed my father with Pancreatic Cancer. Unfortunately my father died 6 weeks later in 2009. My mother now sees Dr Mark Zaetta, no where near the dr that Dr Arnold Hollander was. We miss him very much.

Thinking of you today ... it's so hard to believe that it's been 4-years already since you went to the Casino in the Sky!
We think of you everyday! I saw a humming bird this week ... Yes, I know it sounds crazy ...but, I thought it was you. Just know that you tough us everyday and even though you are not with us physically, you are always in our hearts. I saw a car pass by on your birthday and it said BIG RED ... and a humming bird followed me this week. I know it may not be you, but it's comforting to think it is you. WE LOVE YOU & MISS YOU TERRIBLY! Love your daughter - Suzie

Suzanne, your father was such a wonderful man. I hope that time will ease your pain. Please don't ever second guess decisions made. I just lost my grandfather (and best friend) at the age of 100. I still pick up the phone to call him for our nightly cocktail together from 2500 miles away. I feel lost without him. I know time will heal that. Your dad was such a healer. I'm sure he is holding your heart in the palm of his hand.

Dr. Hollander will always be the best, kindest man and such a pleasure to work for the 14 yrs during which I was his medical transcriptionist. He was ALWAYS a delight to see daily, to laugh/kid with and above all, THE BEST physician for whom I have ever worked!!! I remember only gr8 times whenever I think of him and what a special human being he was! Whenever I drive by his office these days my heart feels saddened for a few moments, but then I think of all the many many gr8 times we shared so many different stories about our luv of birds, family, lawyer jokes, etc.; he brings a smile to my face whenever I think of him. He is in my prayers forever. GOD BLESS you Carol and family. You had THE BEST husband, father and special friend to sooo many people, Carol!!!

I cherish the memories of those meetings and now only wish I'd made an effort t do it more often

Dearest Dad,
Today is the day that we decided to move you from the Las Vegas Hospital to Tucson hospital ... almost two-years-ago. April will forever be a month of pain for me because it marked the beginning of your demise. I always wondered if we should have kept you in Las Vegas .... a Special City that you cherished so very much! Seeing the awful way in which you suffered and exited this world reminds me to appreciate everyday and every moment. Thank you for being such an incredible inspiration to my girls ... you have left such a special legacy and gift of love that they will carry with them all of their lives ... you were the BEST Grandfather and will forever be loved & cherished and Missed! Best Dad, Best Husband and a true healer! Thank you for your gift of teaching us to always see the glass half full ....everyday, every moment I remind myself ... how your cup had always runneth over!
XOXO

I was very ill, a student in the U of A infirmary. I was transferred to St. Joseph's and knew I would live when I heard a voice saying, "What!, I've been watching football all afternoon and they didn't call me!! Arnie stayed eith me all night. What a great person he was, how kind and generous. I've since moved lots of places (my husband joined the Army) and been treated well by other doctors, but there was only one Arnie. I have just now seen this obituary on the Internet, and I feel we have all lost someone special. My condolences to all his family. No wonder you all adored him. People like him don't come along every day, and I feel blessed to have known him.

Pat and I have been in Prescott since May 1st and just today learned of Dr Hollander's passing. We were shocked and so very very sad to get this news. We have both been his patient and from the beginning we were always so grateful and appreciative of his truly caring approach to medicine. He was a very rare and special person who we feel very privileged to have known over the years. For us, there will never be a replacement. His family will be in our prayers.

On behalf of the Arnold and Rosie Mares and Family. We extend our sinceriest condolence to the Hollander family. As a doctor for the family for many years, we were stunned to here the news and a little panic struck as to who will be our doctor from here out. So many years with the doctor, it seems almost impossible that we will find another like Doc. Rest in peace and our prayers are with the family and staff. It will be difficult to fill the shoes he walked in.

August 3, 2012

Dear Carol, after I told Terry about dreaming of meeting Arnie again last night, Terry and i felt we needed to reconnect with you. I can't tell you how shocked and saddened we were to read of his passing online. We all shared so many good times together in hawaii and our memorable trip back to the mainland on the Matsonia with all the kids. I hope this message will reach you and convey to your family our fond memories and love. Art and Terry Wasser, Pittsfield, Ma.

Arne was my family doctor since 1971. He was a prince of a man. Two things I can share with those who loved him are that he was a very experienced birder and lover of nature and when I was gravely ill in 1972 and then living in Bisbee, he closed his office early, drove 200 miles (round trip) to make a house call. That alone almost cured me. I'll always miss you, Arnie. RIP

I was so saddened to hear of Dr. Hollander's death and my heart goes out to all his family and friends.
I had the privilege and honor of having him as my primary doctor the last few years. What a wonderful, kind, compassionate, and gracious fellow he was! He will be so missed...I was so stunned by how he was always there when I needed him. He kept Fridays "open" in case we were sick and needed to see him. When I commented on that to him, he replied "That's what doctors are supposed to do...see patients when you are sick, when you need us!" That philosophy seems to be quite rare today. Thank you, Arnold, for all your wonderful caring and care.

Bless you Dr. Hollander, i asked you to accept me as a patient after graduating from nursing school, I laughed so much during my first employment physical that I apologized to the
office staff and Edna said "it's always like that around here, we worry if the patient is not giggling" We shared detox protocols because he was involved with Padre Kino at that time and I worked at Westcenter, Tucson General.
A kind and brilliant man with a passion for life that was infectious. Waiting for my appointment one day, he had an emergency at the hospital and Edna asked if i could reschedule for the next day, I said " of course , but actually just spending time in the waiting room has cured me" Arnold adored his wife and children, and later of course the grandchildren. I never had a visit that he did not catch me up on the latest family gossip, vacations or simple anecdotes. I never met any of his family, but felt a part of it as one of his finest attributes was his feeling of inclusiveness towards everyone he met. You will be greatly missed by our whole community.

It is with great sadness we received the news of Dr. Hollander's passing. He was a credit to his profession providing our family with care, compassion and wisdom through various chapters in our journey through life. He was a friend and confidant tending our needs with expertise and professionalism leavened with his self-deprecating humor and dry wit. He is missed just as a member of our family would be missed. Rest in peace my friend and thank you for your service and sacrifice. We ask for strength and courage for those friends and family left behind. Our prayers to his wife and family and thanks for sharing him with us for the 18 years he has tended our medical needs.

I knew Dr. Hollander professionally, working as an RN at St. Joseph's Hospital beginning in 1982. He always struck me as a most caring and professional man. I remember making middle-of-the-night calls to physicians during the Christmas season, and talking to him over and over as he covered for so many of his colleagues, so they could enjoy Christmas with their families. I had the great good fortune to work with him in performing medical record review for "QA/UR," beginning in 1984. He would review huge stacks of charts, a task most physicians would turn down (we joked that they would multiply in medical records, while we weren't looking). His stream of consciousness review was a revelation to me; I learned so MUCH by sitting at his elbow. I also have enjoyed being his patient, and sharing bits of our personal lives. I have just now found out about his death, and feel an acute sense of personal loss. Along with so many others, I will miss him SO much. My heart goes out to his family and friends. He was a lovely, inspiring presence in the world.

Dr. Hollander became my doctor in the early 70's. I had just graduated from college and moved to Tucson and knew almost no one. I can't even remember who referred me to him but I do remember my first visit and being very impressed and grateful that I had found a physician I knew I could trust. And, best of all, I remember him racing around town in that little red sports car with the top down and his red hair flying. You always knew it was him. No one else in Tucson with red hair drove a red sports car with the top down year round (almost). My condolances to his wife, his children and grandchildren and his wonderful office staff. I don't want any other doctor.....he was the best.

Dr. Hollander was the best doctor I have ever encountered in my life. He was my doctor for the past 15+ years and became my mother's doctor when she moved to Tucson after being diagnosed with cancer. His compassion and sensitivity toward his patients was second to none. Obviously, I am not alone in feeling as though I was part of his big family. I always looked forward to any appointments with him. I knew he would never retire because we had that discussion and he was very clear that he would work until he could no longer do so. He loved his work and it showed. My heart goes out to his wife and office staff, along with his children and grand children. Carol, Todd and Rachel, we've had personal contact in the past and I want you to know that whenever I asked about you, his face lit up and he raved about his red headed grandson :) He was one in a million and will be deeply missed by so many of us. Rest in Peace, Arnie. We will always be grateful that you were part of our lives.

Dr. Hollander was my doctor for over 36 years. I feel like I have been part of a big family after reading his guest book entries. We all felt the same way about him. I remember whenever I changed insurance companies I wouldn't do it unless Dr. Hollander's name was on the list. I once asked him when he was going to retire and he said, "I love what I am doing, and talking to people all day. I am going to keep on doing this until I no longer can." I will miss him and his smile. I will be forever grateful he was a part of my life.

I lost my Doc. and my Best Friend. Doc Arnie was someone who listened to me and treated me with professionalism as well as love and understanding. He made me feel better every time I saw him no matter what for. He was a Mench. They don't make Doc's like my Doc. Arnie. May he rest in peace. I miss him.

Dr. Hollander had been our family doctor since 2003 and had become much more than just our physician. He was truly a wonderful family friend. I'll never forget his remarkable compassion and care during a personal medical crisis a few years ago. We had just seen him at a Little League game a few weeks ago where our grandsons were playing on opposing teams. I doesn't seem possible that he is gone now. God bless, Doc

Dr. Hollander was my age and like me had served in the army. He was my and my wife's doctor for over 30 years. We had left on a trip on May 22nd. Today, June 4th, I sadly read of his passing. I often asked him when he will retire. He kept doing what he loved to do right to the end. We will really miss him!

Arnie was a wonderful, thoughtful, and caring doctor. His no-nonsense, minimalist approach to medicine was a throwback to the type of old-fashioned GP I knew as a youth in rural Upstate New York. His patient and sympathetic listening, his subtle but persistent urging to change bad habits, and his gentle, healing hands were more potent and powerful tools than the entire arsenal of drugs rolled out by many health providers. In addition to all that, he was also funky and funny and most knowledgable about Tucson's medical, political, and cultural history. I almost looked forward--or at least didn't fear--an annual exam, which was more like a congenial visit with an old buddy. My favorite memory? For my initial appointment, I came dressed in my usual black T-shirt and khakis. He looked at me and said: "Love your style!" Then he peeled back his white lab coat to reveal the same sartorial taste--or lack thereof--beneath. I will greatly miss his style--and friendship.
