Stanley Adams Obituary

Stanley Dean Adams age 71, passed away on June 16, 2015 after battling cancer for several years. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at St. Francis in the Foothills, 4625 East River Road, Tucson, AZ 85718. Stan was born on April 6, 1944 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of the late Richard and Dorothy Adams of Augusta, Kansas. After graduating high school in Augusta, Stan attended Kansas State University and completed a five-year course in Mechanical Engineering. During this time he met and married Linda Katherine Turney. Following college he served in the Army in Aberdeen, Maryland. Stan and Linda's son, Marc Wade Adams, was born during this time. Stan spent his second year of commitment in Saudi Arabia with the Army Corps of Engineers. Upon returning, Stan and his family moved to Tucson to begin work with Russett Trane Heating and Air Conditioning. In 1973 their daughter, Angela Dean Adams, was born. In 1977 Stan started his own engineering firm - Adams and Associates Mechanical Engineering. Over the years Stan and his associates worked on many large projects in and around Tucson, including projects for Pima County, the University of Arizona, the City of Tucson, Tucson Unified School District, Catalina Foothills School District and Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. In 2004 they received the Governor's Award of Excellence and first place in the Southern Arizona Energy Awards for their work on the City of Tucson House Apartments. They received another Governor's Award of Excellence for their work at the El Rio Adult Education Center and the Adoptive Recreation Center. The joint AIA and Building Trades Cornerstone Foundation also named them "Consultants of the Year". Stan had an amazing zest for life. He was joyful and positive in all he did. He loved playing all types of sports and all types of card games. A Saturday playing golf and cards with friends at Tucson Country Club was always a good day! However, Stan loved nothing more than he loved his family. His family members have no words to express how much he will be missed. In addition to Linda, his wife of 48 years, Stan is survived by: his children, Marc Wade Adams of Tucson, Arizona and Angela Dean Bailey and her husband, Bryan Scott Bailey, of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren, Grace Katherine Adams of Tucson, Arizona and Millie Rose Bailey, Brett Scott Bailey and Katherine Dean Bailey of Phoenix, Arizona; his brother, Richard Kent Adams and his wife, Ruth Elaine Adams of Dallas, Texas; his niece, Kari Elaine Urban, her husband, Bryan James Urban and her children, Brandt James Urban, Lauren Elaine Urban, Katelyn Anne Urban all of Dallas, Texas; his nephew, Lance Kent Adams, his wife, Laura Michelle Adams and his children, Taylor Elizabeth Adams and Connor Lance Adams all of Dallas, Texas; many cousins and many, many friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stanley's honor to St. Francis in the Foothills: www.stfrancisumc.org/giving.html. Arrangements by ANGEL VALLEY FUNERAL HOME.

It is hard to believe that it has been so long since Stan's passing. I can still hear his voice as we discussed life and business. He was a fine gentleman.
Best wishes for his family - I hope this is a day of celebrating your remembrance of his full and wonderful life.

I will always remember the lighter things, like typing the rules for his poker games or lunch time skip-bo matches, with great fondness. Reading over what others have said about his character and charm... It is all true. He will be greaty missed.

My mother has worked for HIS company he started in 1977 Adams and Associates for 28 years strong. He taught her so much of what she knows that is why she is one of the BEST at what she does. I met Stan when I was 22 years old and dating their son Marc. I was lucky enough to have ended up him being my father in-law. Stan loved his wife, children and grandchildren. We would always have a great family dinner or go out for our favorite pizza. We had a wonderful and competitive time playing board games or cards. Stan was a man of integrity and character with a great sense of humor. I loved to see him laugh and his nose would scrunch up. I wish I could have been there to tell him how much I love him and how much he meant to me. I considered both Stan and Linda parents to me. Stan will be missed so much by so many. He was a great man! I love you Stan!

Stan,

We will miss you but never forget you. Your personal touch and sincerity has extended so much further then you could ever have imagined. You were a model person and someone that made life so much more enjoyable. It was great working with you and learning from you. You always took it to the next level and your smile remains ever present.

I met Stan several times. I will be forever gratful to him for believing in my sister Penny and taking her under his wing. He gave her the chance to learn on the job. She had a 10th grade education and a GED. She started by running blue prints between offices and the rest is history. She worked under Stan for 28 years and is still going strong. If it weren't for this great man, she wouldn't have become the talented engineer that she is today. RIP Stan. You will be missed by many. And thank you!!!

My late husband Don always enjoyed working with Stan on U of A, and Catalina Foothills School District projects and spoke of him often. My sincere condolences.

To Linda and Her Children,
I am a close friend of Stan's Brother, Kent. Kent and I became close friends and room-mates while we were undergraduate students at Kansas State University (~1958-1962). As time went by, I also came to know Kent's younger brother, Stanley. As I first knew Stan, he was an extremely pleasant, highly intelligent, very outgoing, and a most successful and promising mechanical engineering student. CLEARLY, as Stan's life and career progressed he proved to be a great Amercian, a great and most loving family man, a great humanitarian, and an outstanding mechanical engineer.
I am deeply saddened by Stan's passing, and I offer my deepest sympathies to Linda, and her children and grandchildren, as well as to, Kent and Ruth Elaine Adams and their children and their extended families. May God Bless and Keep All of You.

I can't believe a man of such energy, humor and kindness is gone so soon. It was always a pleasure to work on a project when Adams & Associates was on the team. Stan surrounded himself with great employees and mentored women as designers. Stan could diffuse a contentious job meeting with his wit and expertise, flashing that infectious smile. I never met his family but it was clear he was a great family man - his business was important but they were his priority. He touched so many lives and won't be forgotten....

Stan was one of the coolest classiest guys I have worked with. He really uplifted the construction team. He is dearly remembered and I wish his family well at this difficult time.

June 22, 2015

It's got to be at least 45 yrs since I first met Stan. I don't remember the circumstances, but he had left Russett to start his own business. I had started my business about the same time and when we would met over a project, we would discuss the trepidations we had over this new 'adventure'. We both survived and I hadn't seen Stan for quite a while until I was working with SFA about 7-8 yrs ago, and Stan came to discuss a new project. I was taken aback by his 'white' hair and then realized my hair had turned white as well. Stan was a good guy with a good sense of humor, and fun to work with. My sincere condolences to Linda and the family and know that Stan will be deeply missed. Goodbye old friend.

Stan Adams made an impression on a lot of lives here in Tucson......including my own. Stan was my first "boss" after graduating college and I couldn't have been mentored by a more intelligent, professional, dedicated, honest, stand-up guy. He had a great spirit about him. AND, as most of you know, he was also deeply competitive.....whether it was regarding his business, telling a gut-busting joke or playing games of racquetball, golf or ping pong! Stan's presence will be missed here in the Tucson community but his imprint has been indelibly made. Here's to you Stan....and when you're playing a round of golf with the big guy....hope you get a hole-in-one (just let the big guy win!). Our thoughts and prayers go out to Linda and the family.

If it wasn't for Stan I would not be where I am today, he will be missed, he was a great engineer who taught many young people going thru the office how it should be done. I had the pleasure of working for him for 20 years.

My condolences to all of his family.

We are so very sorry to hear of your loss. I have known Stan for years and worked with him on many projects. We also served on the Tucson Fire Code Review Committee together. I am very saddened to read abut Stan's passing . My business partner Darrell Treu and I always held Stan in the highest regard . As the owners of Madera Mechanical Company for twenty plus years , we had the good fortune to work with Stan and his design firm on many of the notable projects he designed .His drawings and specifications for a project were always of the highest quality . We are proud to have been a part of Stan's enduring legacy of top notch mechanical systems in the many buildings we erected around Southern Arizona . Please accept my condolences to the Adams family , and to all of the Stan Adams and Associates engineers and designers .
