Gale SLAUGHTER Obituary

SLAUGHTER, Gale A. "Joe" 7/30/1930 - 1/22/2017 Joe lived the dash between birth and going home with what he called a blessed life. He was born on a farm in Missouri, he entered the Air Force on 1951, served 20 years seeing the world, making many friends along the way. The next 20 years were spent working on a mine--Duval Sahuarita near Tucson. The last working years were spent driving buses--always telling about the wonderful people he had met. (They loved the stories and quips that was so much a part of him). He particularly loved driving for "Up With People." After meeting his wife, Maydell in 1953, they were married on their lunch hour on 1954. He accepted the Lord as his Savior in 1954 and served Him in a multitude of ways: from Sunday School teacher, deacon, and best job ever was greeting people on Sunday mornings with a joke, hug and a bulletin. He loved every way he could serve the Lord. His proudest accomplishment was his family, along with wife, Maydell were three children: two sons, Gary (Sheila) and John; daughter, Nancy Pitts (Mark). Grandchildren brought many blessings: Christy (Carmody) Rauch, Ryan (Jessi) Pitts, Melissa (Bobby) Speiker and Sarah (Richard) Peters. and with extra blessings of great-grandchildren, Ella, Peyton, Levi and coming soon, Brynlie. We want to thank our very special family, church family, neighbors and all those who cared and prayed for us during these last five months. Any memorial gifts should be given to our Village Meadows Baptist Church Building Fund. Hug someone for him today. Service will be Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Village Meadows Baptist Church, 1407 El Camino Real, Sierra Vista, Arizona.

The Slaughter family were our across the street neighbors when we were all stationed at Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota. Mr. Slaughter Joe was a calm, loving and personable man who always had a kind word to say and a smile on his face. Everyone will miss your presence but we all know you will greet us when it is our time with a joke, a hug and a bulletin. Sending all my love and prayers to your family during this difficult time.

I have know Joe for 40 years. The most generous giving & caring man. He looked out for little children, old people and others the world had passed by or given up on. He loved the Lord with all his heart and shared his life with everyone he met. He took an interest in all the people he worked with in the Air Force, and at the Mines and Driving the buses. He will be missed deeply.

An honor to have worked with Joe having him as a bus driver to Duval Mine transporting miners and also his great personality as a Gray Line/Citizen Bus Driver. A real good man with high standards and morals, he left his mark and is now being rewarded.
