Lillian SPIECE Obituary

SPIECE, Lillian "Lee"  Lillian Gorton Spiece, age 91, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt.  Born in Corning, NY, she was one of the "Greatest Generation".  She worked in the Corning Glassworks helping the war cause in WWII, received a scholarship to Cornell University and went into family social casework in Steuben County, NY, championing abused children in rural settings.  She married a career Army officer and West Point graduate, Donald C. Spiece – a loving marriage that lasted 61 years.  As an Army wife, she lived in Alaska before it was a state and in Tunisia, North Africa soon after it gained independence and many places in between.  Lee led a wonderful, full life and was passionate about whatever she did and wherever life took her. Growing up she loved sailing, but in the Tucson she so loved, her passion was tennis.  Lee will be most remembered for her positive, cheerful attitude and how deeply she cared about family, friends, the less fortunate and the traditions and moral values of our country's heritage. She will be dearly missed by all those she touched, especially by her surviving children, Sue, Don Jr., and Steve, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Lee will be buried with her husband, Don, at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Sierra Vista, AZ.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Casa de los Ninos, 1101 N. 4th Ave., Tucson, AZ 85705 to help Tucson's children in need.

Steve and family, I have very fond memories of this sweet lady. She and your Dad put up with a lot of our youthful shenanigans. The picture brings a smile.
