Bernice Versteeg Obituary

Bernice May Versteeg 78, of Snowflake died at Chandler Regional Medical Center January 4, 2010. She and her husband, Larry, moved to Tucson in the late 1950s. While raising six children, Bernice helped to establish a long-lived tack, trailer, feed and horse-trading business with her husband, Larry. During the 1960s, they also ran riding stables on Mount Lemmon and on Ajo road (close to Old Tucson). In the mid-1970s, she and Larry moved to Wheaton, Missouri. Bernice loved their small farm and lived there many years after getting divorced from Larry. She moved to Snowflake, Arizona in the late 1990s. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Bernice is survived by her children, Dara Plympton (Rod), Rosie Babbitt (Troy), Jay Belcher (Cheryl), Linda Stucky (Byron) and Laura Click (Nathan). She is also survived by much loved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Michael Raymond Helm. A Memorial Service and Celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the family ranch outside of Snowflake, Arizona. Condolences may be sent to 9659 Woodruff Hay Hollow Rd., Snowflake, AZ 85937.

I was sad to see Bernice's obituary in today's paper. It brought back
memories of our good neighbors next door; Bernice, Larry, all the kids and lots of horses -- and the good times we enjoyed. I pray that you may find peace and comfort during this time of grief.
