Nellie Calhoun Obituary

CALHOUN, Nellie Mae Peek -- Our precious mother and Nana, Mrs. Nellie Mae Peek Calhoun, 91, formerly of Oxford, Alabama, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ about 6 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, at Manchester Health Care Center in Manchester. She was being cared for by Compassus Hospice and Palliative Care. When her hospice C.N.A., Miss Rita, came in to care for her that morning, Nana opened her eyes and looked at Miss Rita. Upon doing so, Nana smiled and then took her last peaceful breath. She then crossed over to be with the Lord Jesus Christ in her Heavenly home. Mrs. Calhoun was born on April 17, 1926, to the late James Archie Peek and Goldie Mae Haynes Peek. She is survived by two daughters, Sarah (Jerry) Dickinson and Sue Dark; three sons, Danny (Agnes) Calhoun, Timothy (Kaye) Calhoun and Caleb (Christy) Calhoun; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Geraldine Reid; one sister-in-law, Marie Peek; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. Calhoun will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home in Anniston, Alabama, with the Rev. Howard Carroll and the Rev. Homer Longoria officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Oct. 29, and from 12 to 1 p.m. on Monday. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg Dickinson, Tim Hurst, Keeley Miller, Gabriel Calhoun, Dacoda Calhoun and Brent Short. Honorary pallbearers will be William Calhoun, John Carnes, Earl Calhoun, Terrell McCallum, Kendall McCallum and Joseph Calhoun. Mrs. Calhoun was a loving mother, Nana, sister and friend. She will be missed greatly, but we know that her homecoming celebration is now in full, joyous swing. Mrs. Calhoun was preceded in death by her parents, James Archie Peek and Goldie Mae Haynes Peek; one son, James Albert Calhoun; her husband, Ernest Calhoun; four brothers; two sisters; one sister-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
