March 5, 2019
My Condolences to the Bowman Family. Coach was my friend, mentor, and college football coach. After loosing my scholarship to Southern Mississippi Coach signed me fo a full football scholarship at Marion Military Institute in 1988. We went on to be two time state champions and ranked by the JCNAA my second season as The #2 ranked Jr college in the nation.
I only recently found out that coach had passed away but his contributions to my life truly made me a man. I will never forget what and how he influenced my life. To the Bowmans I can only say he will greatly missed by me and thank you from my heart for sharing him and his leadership. Love you Coach We Will All Meet Again.

As a former friend and teammate of Steve, it was a truly sad moment when I heard the news of his passing. I have always respected Steve not only for his tremendous athletic tenacity and successes but of his love for life and that humongous smile and laughter. Heaven just welcomed a true All American in all aspects of life. Till we meet again,

I was a blessed man to grow up in Pascagoula and spent many a wonderful day with my good friend, Steve. We were classmates, teammates, and Sunday School class friends for our entire early childhood through high school. In fact, Steve's dad Mac was our Sunday School teacher for many years. His mother Gladys raised seven boys but she never hesitated to accept me and our other buddies into their home with love and open arms. We had a great time growing up and living in a small town. Steve, of course, was an outstanding athlete. He played Little League, Babe Ruth, high school baseball and track, and was the star running back on our high school team. He was also very active in the Choraliers, our high school singing group. However, most of all Steve was a great friend that was fun to be with. He had a super contagious loud laugh and he loved to use it. I can fondly remember spending time with him and hurting from laughing so hard at him and with him. Above all he was a great husband and father and a genuine devout Christian. Even though we've not seen each other much over the past 50 plus years it was easy to quickly get reacquainted and to feel no time had gone bye. I have lost part of my childhood with Steve's passing. We were close and I loved him and I know he loved me. May God give comfort to Emily and the entire family. They'll surely miss him but his suffering is over on earth. God took home a Good Man and Steve's presence in Heaven will be a joyous occasion as he'll be happy and laughing with the Angels.

It was a honor and a privilege to play for Coach Bowman, His leadership and true grit inspired me and others to challenge ourselves and give our very best on and off the field. I am thankful for the life lessons I learned as a player for Coach Bowman at MMI. God Speed Sir. Here is to an Undefeated rest of your season.

What a great player and a great man. My father during the 60,s got so much enjoyment with the Bama teams. He made sure all of us were strong supporters of the Tide. He spoke often of Mr Steve and his true grit. May be rest in the arms of peace and joy. David Cagle class of 76

I was so sad to hear about Coach Bowman passing away. I loved playing for him at MMI from 1987-1988 and want to send my deepest sympathy to his family. Because of his dedication and love for football I went on to become and Educatir and Coach. Most of my fond memories from MMI are centered around Coach Bowman and our long talks on the front porch at his Marion home.

I was a close friend of brother Gayle. He spoke often, and with much pride about "little" brother Steve. May he rest in peace, now that he has joined brother Gayle.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Steve's entire family . I am sorry you have to endure such sadness . I have many great memories of Steve growing up. He was a fine southern gentleman who loved his fellow man and thrilled everyone who watched him play football. May his family find peace in their memories and may Steve rest in peace
