Jean Ricks Obituary

FAYETTE Jean Hellers Ricks age 89, a native of Fayette, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at Fayette Long Term Care Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011, at the Fayette First United Methodist Church with Dr. T. Michael Morgan and the Reverend Eric Bagwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Fayette Memorial Gardens cemetery with Norwood Chapel of Fayette directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.

Mrs. Ricks was the daughter of the late Douglas Daniel and Mildred Jeffries Daniel. Jean was educated at Fayette schools and Hillman Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her Registered Nurse certification. After serving as an Army nurse she married her first husband, George Hellers, and spent many years in New York. After returning to Fayette she was active in church and club work. She and her second husband, Claude Ricks, enjoyed traveling and entertaining.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, George Hellers and Claude Ricks; her brother, Malcolm Daniel; a niece, Lauretta Daniel Bayless; a nephew, Dr. Malcolm Jacox; and other close relatives.

Survivors include her sister, Frances Jacox (Wayne) of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her sister-in-law, Malinda Daniel; her nieces, Dottie Daniel Brasher and Jeanie Daniel Hindman (Dale); and her nephew, George Jacox (Leslie).

Pallbearers will be George Jacox, Daniel Brasher, Dustin Hindman, Daniel Hindman, Bill Jeffries, Dale Lawrence, Russell Oswalt, and Benny Jeffries.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fayette First United Methodist Church or The American Cancer Society.
