Richard Appling Obituary
He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Appling; mother, Margie Appling Daniels; and brothers, H. B. Appling and Jerry Appling.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Montgomery Appling; daughter, Lauren Elizabeth Appling; son, Richard Montgomery Appling; and sister, Mary Yessick (Eddie).
Richard was retired from the Alabama National Guard 31st Support Battalion with 26 years of service.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are former and retired Guard Members of 31st Support Battalion, Tuesday night Jalapeño's Group, TCHS Class of 1970, nurses and staff of DCH CSICU, employees of Tuscaloosa Acoustical Systems and JLS Sales, Reggie Lancaster and Jerry Lancaster.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one's favorite charity or charity benefiting Armed Forces.

Carol, Lauren and Richard,
I would like to offer my sincerest condolences on the loss of one of the best Men I have ever had the priviledge to know.
Rick was so kind, so caring of others and so much fun to be around. I will never forget him and will always cherish the memories of his friendship.
