Willis M. Sample

TUSCALOOSA – Willis M. Sample, age 77, died November 30, 2016. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2016 at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel with Tom Hammons officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel directing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Lucille Sample; first wife, Susan Sample; and sister, Mary Jane Frentzen.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Sample of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; daughters Nona Short (Wayne) of Prattville, Ala.; son, Andy Sample (Lori) of Cottondale, Ala.; stepsons, Carey Newman (April), Joe Newman (Stacey), Kelly Newman (Tina) all of Chattanooga, Tenn.; grandchildren, Katie Short, Susan Short, Brittany Montgomery (Chris), Hunter Sample, Magen Sample; step-grandchildren, Aaron Newman, Kameron Newman, Kyle Newman, Garret Newman, Boyd Newman, Faith Newman, Naomi Newman and Gabriel Newman; and one great-grandchild, Ella Montgomery.
Willis served in the National Guard and was a retired rural letter carrier and lifelong farmer. He was a good man, a loving husband, great father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved working at his farm and spending time with family. He loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events, always with a hat on his head and a camera around his neck. He will be missed by all.
Pallbearers will be Hunter Sample, Carey Newman, Kelly Newman, Joe Newman, Boyd Newman and Brian Pate.
Honorary pallbearers are Bill Langham, Paul Hoggle, William Pate, friends and coworkers from Cottondale and Moundville Post Office, friends and farmers from Hale County.
