George,
I will never get the answer to this question. Why were you and Mom and Dad taken away from me? My heart will be broken forever. You were my best friend and teacher about life and the so many wonders that we have in this world. I truly was lucky to have you as my Brother. It will be very difficult to go through life without you and Mom and Dad but I am sure that now the 3 of you are together again, you will keep an eye on me and guide me in the right direction.
Love, Tom

I just want to say a few words about George as a representative of his many friends from cycling.
Yes, it is true that our common interest is what brought us together. But that’s not what made us friends. Bikes allowed us to spend time together and, they were the vehicles around which we became very good friends.
But, as Lance says, It’s not about the bike.
George is the kind of guy you just wanted to be around. It always was better when he showed up. What is it about George that made him so enjoyable to be around?
George really knew how to be a friend. He was a great listener. He encouraged you to talk and he really cared about what you were saying. He never dominated the conversation, judged or discouraged. He was always positive and uplifting. I cannot remember him ever saying a disparaging remark about anyone. He was a kind and gentle man…always humble, never arrogant, mean or insensitive.
As a teammate, George was always willing to do more than his share and contribute to other’s success. He would go out of his way to support you even at his own expense. I am sure that is the way that he lived the rest of his life as well.
George was also a very deep man. He had many interests and talents, which, not only included all types of biking, but also music. He was an accomplished musician; he played piano, guitar and the flute. He was an avid collector of vintage LP records. He was full of surprises…. I just found out that he was an avid bowler!
But the most impressive facet of George was his dedication to his family. He really loved Audrey and Victor. He loved being with them and took every opportunity to spend time with them and support their lives. I know that he loved his sons Eric and Chris very much as well. He loved to talk to them and tried to see them whenever he could. He liked to talk about them with us, and what they were up to…and how they were growing into fine young men.
George leaves a large gap in all our lives. But we are all so much better for the time we spent with him. I think I speak for all of us when I say that he has inspired us and that we all will strive to be more like George as we continue our own journeys without him.

George: You taught many of us to respect balance -- between passion for your sport, and for the family you dearly loved. We can all learn from your ability to be competitive, with the relaxed and positive attitude you always brought. May our wives and children be lucky enough to be talked about as much, and be loved as much, as you so often shared in our rides and car trips to races. More people than you could ever have imagined will be missing you.
You beat me to the finish line again!

This is such sad news. My sympathy to George's wife and family.
George was unique: a strong competitor who put camaraderie and the joys of cycling first. Our little band of cyclocross enthusiasts is noticibly smaller now. I'll miss George a lot.
A friend and respectful competitor,

You were always a ray of sunshine. I remember your smile and wonderful love of life. You were a friend in the truest since of the word.
My heart goes out to your wife, your children, grandchildren, extended family, and all your friends. You will be dearly missed by all of us that knew you.
I was blessed with your kindness and friendship over the years. And I am forever thankful to have known you.
May God keep you and hold you close. May His love shine upon your family at this very sad time and give them comfort in knowing you are in His presence.

Although time and distance limited us from seeing his smile and hearing his laughter in recent years, we still thought of George often. George was more than a friend..he was family. He has left us with many great memories and we were blessed to have had him as a part of our lives. Now the Lord has taken him, may he smile, laugh, and walk with the Lord forever.
