Was born on August 20, 1923 and passed away on September 22, 2013. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Olga Bachman, his brother Roy and his beloved wife Louise. Larry graduated from Washburn High School in 1941 and enlisted in the Army Corps. After flight training, he was based in England as a co-pilot of a B-24 and flew 35 missions. Larry returned in 1945 and devolped Bachman's Nursery Production and Landscape business. He was married to Louise in 1946. It was my distinct pleasure to know Larry as a guiding force behind the construction of the Twin Cities Shriners Hospital. I feel very privileged to have served under his leadership on the Board of Governors for the hospital. He was an extraordinary leader and mentor. I truly appreciated his friendship.

Larry truly was an officer and a gentleman. I knew him to be a generous and well respected leader of the community as a whole, though my connections were primarily through the 8th Air Force Association, where he was admired and respected for his leadership, warm smile and generosity. Larry embodied what was best in our "Greatest Generation". He will be sorely missed.

If you wanted to describe the phrase, "a class act," all you would have to do is point to Larry Bachman.

He was a powerful influence on the success of the Minnesota Chapter of the 8th Air Force Historical Society.

Loyalty, honesty, friendship and integrity are all lessons that I learned from Larry. I will miss you friend.

Keep flying your Liberator on "the step" in the loving hands of our Lord.

My father Ray Rau became friends with Larry through the 8th Airforce Historical Society of MN. He always held Larry in such high regard and on the few occasions I met Larry myself at club meetings I had to agree. Larry was a true gentleman with a sweet spirit and generous heart who will be deeply missed.

To Dale, Ruth and Lee Bachman and their families,
We are so sorry to learn of Larry's passing. It was fun seeing him last Nov at the Employee Open House and Santa Night. He was so great about coming to all the Bachman's Employees' Club events including the Winter Warm-up and even pitching in to help when he and Louise would arrive early. It is hard to believe he retired 25 years ago in 1988, as he was still so much a part of the company. With Sincere Sympathy, Bachman's Treasury Department

My Dad, Don Kent, and Larry became good friends at the 8th Air Force Wed. Lunches. Together they did "The Planes of Fame", and spoke at many schools about WW2.He was a big help to me when my dad died by calling people to let them know.He also called and kept in touch with my dad when he lived with us while in hospice. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.I'm so sorry for your loss.

A beautiful man,
A beautiful soul.

I will never forget the wonderful times spent in his company and the stories Larry and my father shared over their years on the Board at the Masonic Home and their memories of Zuhrah. Work and dedication of that generation was truly admirable. One of a kind that will be missed but never forgotten.

I was greatly saddened to hear that Larry has left us. My memories of bachmans greenhouse go back 70 years when mt parents would take us kids to see "pete" the aligator in his pond at the greenhouse. As having former military expreience and being a WW-2 historian (of sorts) I became an associate member of the 8th Air Force Historical Assoc., of which (unknown to me) Larry was also a member. My questions about Pete brought back happy memories for Larry and we talked of the old times in the South Mpls. area. I could see he was a kind and gentle man and was sad to see the toll time had taken on him. The last time I saw Larry I told him; "God bless you. You are a good man. When you are gone, the world will be the poorer for it. Thank you for what you have done." My message is this; When you love someone, Tell them you love them every day . For you dont know if that will be the last time you will ever see them on this earth. See you later Larry. John Bolduc

I was sad to hear of Mr. Bachman's passing. I know my Daddy was very fond of him, and so enjoyed their time spent together at the Minnehaha Masonic Lodge. I know they are together again, sharing stories over a cup of coffee. :)

He gave so much of himself to his community, and to the MN Masonic Home in particular. Heaven has gained a wonderful, caring man.

My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Bachman's family during this difficult time.

With Sympathy,

May Larry rest in peace - he wil be greatly missed by the WWII 8th Air Force lunches on Wed where he would eat lunch and share stories with the other WII Fly-Boys. Larry was the one guy that everyone looked for at each Wed. lunch. He was a true Hero.
