Schoonover family:

I am shocked to learn of Glenn's death, only receiving the news now in July. A great guy. So pleasant and personable. He was terrific to work with our capital project c. 2005. I feel like I have lost a friend. Pastor Peter W. Marty, Davenport, IA

I wish my greatest condolences to Glenn's family. I just found out today and was greatly saddenend. He always had a smile on his face. We shared a love for animals and food, and both of these he had TONS of expert advice that I just loved. He always had great stories to tell me about his sons and their families. He loved you all so much and I'm glad I was able to be graced with his presence. His smile and love will go on forever. God bless you.

When Glenn took on the Sr Pastor role at Messiah Lutheran in Fargo, N.D. it was exciting in many ways. I will mention two in particular. Messiah had a Live Televised service each Sunday. Now you talk about phone calls and letters to Glenn after "that last sermon". Some loved it and others, well you know. So Glenn quickly recognized with the television exposure the only way to avoid controversy was to do nothing and say nothing. Needless to say, Glenn went right on with his ministry. The second is a more personal story. The boys were now part of Glenn and Catherines family and they all loved to come to our little lake place. On this particular day, several of my aunt's and uncles were there sitting in chairs under the trees. The Schoonovers drove up, Glenn leaped from the van, stripping down to his 'Speedo' as he ran across the yard in front of the 'old aunts' and off the dock into the lake, laughing all the way. Aunt Viola was the first to ask, "who was that". We announced, "it is our Sr Pastor, Glenn". What a guy! Also, what a cook! We shared many wonderful meals both in N.D. and here in AZ. Bill and Paul, we loved Glenn and share in your loss. Curt & Marilyn Sorenson, Scottsdale,AZ

I am deeply saddened to hear of Glenn's passing. 30 years ago he officated my wedding with such grace and dignity I can still hear and see him as I remember that day. 9 years later we were honored to have him baptize our son. He was so very kind and gracious and will be dearly missed. Prayers and deepest sympathy to all his family during this very difficult time.

To Glenn's family,

I worked with Glenn when I was a pastor in the Nebraska Synod, and he was a member with me at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral in Minneapolis. I remember his great love of Jesus and passion for the Gospel. He will be missed.

Let light perpetual shine upon him, O Lord.

To Glenn's family:

It was always a pleasure to work with Glenn in my congregation in Pittsford, New York or with the UpState NY Synod. He was always insightful and willing to share his expertise, and also willing to throw in an opinion or two as well. We will sorely miss his presence at our Synod Assembly this June, but will appreciate his guidance for years to come. God bless you all.

In sure and certain hope,
Pastor Jeff Hedin

Bill and Paul,
I am so sorry for your loss. I pray you sense God's presence directly and through the love and support of family and friends. Your father was such a gracious, loving man. He loved you deeply...telling or should I say bragging about you both, and now Taylor Lynn. He was gifted in so many ways...as a preacher, singer, actor, father and grandfather. He will truly be missed. May you sense his presence with you as you continue your journey.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Glenn's passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I serve as the Director of Youth Ministries at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska, where I also grew up and have been a life-long member. While working for the Nebraska Synod, Glenn was a member of our congregation.

He was a wonderful friend and mentor to me in so many ways. I have fond memories of Glenn "Schoony" chaperoning our youth summer mission trips to Montana (2000) and Washington D.C. (2001). As a young person, I learned so much from him about my faith during those experiences and beyond.

Glenn always took time to listen and offer his support to me in any way, especially when my family fell on hard times. He encouraged me to stay close to the Lutheran church and to never forget my faith, no matter where I went. In part, because of his guidance, I am now blessed to be able to work in the church I grew up in and have the opportunity to pass the faith down to the next generation as he did with me.

He was one of the first people to call and wish me well after I began my ministry with our youth nearly six years ago.

I will never forget his joyful spirit, his infectious laugh, and his love of music and history. He inspired me with his sermons and how he lived out his faith each day. He so generously shared his talents with me and Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church, always helping to further its rich and glorious history.

Well done good and faithful servant.

Thanks be to God for blessing us with Glenn! You will be missed greatly.

Dear Schoonover family,
Glenn was a dear colleague and friend. We worked together at Churchwide and later making videos with Kairos and Associates in New York and Indiana. Glenn brought the room to life with his energy and humor. Once in Philadelphia, he played the role of Henry Melchior Muhlenberg for our Churchwide Assembly video! Always loved the story of him slipping into the open grave during a downpour at his first official funeral gravesite service. Makes me laugh now to think of him telling it. Rest in peace, friend.

Glenn's sons and grandaughter,

I went to grade school and junior and senior high school with your father. I saw him at a couple of our reunions, most recently in June 2010 when he gave the invocation at our banquet. It was so nice to see him after many years. He will be missed by all our class from Sibley High School. My sympathy to all of you in losing him so suddenly.
