I worked with Katie for many years in the Processing Department at the Minnesota Historical Society. It was a privilege to have known her, and I will miss her.

Kathryn Ann Johnson (always known to my family and me as simply KATIE) was an engaging, dignified, agreeable individual. She expressed strong opinions with a polished tact, yet left no doubt where she stood on many issues.
My mother was fortunate to make her acquaintance in 1952 at the Minnesota Historical Society. Both my parents (and then I) were friends with her for many years. Katie corresponded with my mother regularly during a time of emotional illness. Katie led a very busy life; yet this courageous, often unsung good neighbor never forgot those in need.
While Katie was an aristocrat, with an unfeigned sense of noblesse oblige, no careful detail was too small to execute, nor lost to insignificance. She cared deeply about social causes, and was dedicated to the work of the Historical Society. I will cherish her in memory, but am confident her work and spirit live on undiminished. Katie's friendship will be long and deeply missed.

I knew Katy from 1970 when I started work at the Minnesota Historical Society and often gave her a ride to or from work or to places like the dry cleaners. I haven't seen her for many years but will always remember her as a good friend and colleague. -- John Wickre, Newport, MN
