Brett, Karen and family of Tom,
Please accept my sincerest condolences. Tom was a very special person, and I hold deep respect for him as a teacher - both as a colleague and as a teacher of my children. Tom had just the right touch to keep my son both engaged and "in line," and understood that other approaches would be most effective in ensuring that my daughter was successful. As a colleague, Tom had that wonderful capacity of seeing the irony in our life as educators, and he new better than to let us take ourselves too seriously. I also have a special appreciation of Tom's craft in reclaiming the beauty in old things. I look around my home and see the family pieces that Tom restored for me, and I know they will be around to give pleasure to my children's children. Tom left his mark on the future - the hearts of his students and in the life he gave to things of the past. I hope knowing that he made a difference for so many will give you additional comfort at this time.

Carol, Bret, and Brandon, I was so surprized when I got the call from you. Tom and I go back to our college days at St. Cloud State. He was my roomate at the frat house for at least a year. seemed like just a couple of years ago. I will forever remember the good times.

Carol and family: Tom was a fraternity brother and close friend while we attended St. Cloud State. I especially remember his exceptional character qualities, good nature and fine sense of humor (his singing voice in the Sig Tau chorus left something to be desired, however).

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Carol, Brett, and Brandon: Tom was my Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity brother at St. Cloud State in the mid 60's. He was such a joy to be with, like a real brother to me. As a fellow elementary education major we shared so much of the pain and glee of the program. His wonderful sense of humor added joy to my college life. After graduation we went our separate ways but I never forgot him. I was thrilled when he attended a party to welcome me on a visit to Minnesota in 2004.
This world is a much better place because Tom Latterell was here as a husband, father, teacher, and friend.
