Fr. Gene was a gentle support for me spiritually, through great conversations in the Sacristy while waiting for Mass. Will always remember his listening ear and welcoming nature. God Bless him.

Father Abbott has always been a special part of our lives at St Luke's and most recently, he was at my Mom's bedside when she died. I will always be grateful and will never forget his kindness and spiritual example.

My cherished memories of Saint Luke's Camp always include Father Abbott. He loved to have fun and also chat about camp. Many many years after Dennis died, Fr. Abbott spoke of him. I hold that close also. To the Horans...

I knew Gene for over 75 years going back to kindergarten at St Marks and last saw and talked with him shortly before his last illness. He never changed, always kind, gentle and deeply spiritual.at our 50th high school reunion mass he had us laughing hard at his wonderful stories of his years in the band and Sarge Weber it's director. But it is his total devotion to his priesthood and love of Jesus that all of us will remember him for.

Father Gene was at the heart of a dynamic era for St. Luke's Church, School and Camp. Hundreds of campers, counselors and parents appreciated his efforts at St. Luke's Camp. He was lovingly known as the "Wooly Bully" and self-proclaimed "King of the Raft". We loved him dearly.

Fr. Abbott, rest in peace. His motto was "just do it!" Being good isn't enough, being holy is more important.
