Lawrence Bainbridge Obituary

On the morning of November 4, 2008, Roy Bainbridge died peacefully at home in Ukiah with his children at his side.

Roy was born September 5, 1923 in Fort Bragg. In High school he was a Timberwolves Basketball Star and Captain of the team,in 1941. He enlisted in the Unitied States Marine Corps, First Marine Division, on January 19, 1943. He served in the Pacific in WWII. He survived three major battles, Okinawa, Cape Gloucester, and Peleiu, Palau. He was Decorated with the Medal of Honor and Good Conduct and Honorably Discharged as a Corporal on January 1, 1946. .

In 1948, Roy married Audrey Mello, also of Fort Bragg, and the two moved to Ukiah. Roy was employed as the Western Electric Company's Installation Supervisor for Mendocino, Humboldt, and Sonoma Counties. He retired after 41 years. He is a member of the Telephone Pioneers and The California Waterfouwl Association.

He is survived by his daughters Deidre Bainbridge of Jackson, WY, and Jessica James of Ukiah, son Alfred Bainbridge of Mckinleyville, and two granddaughters; Hilary James of Ukiah and and Lauren Bainbridge of the University of California at Santa Barbara..

His family and many good friends,everyday will miss the gift of his great love and wisdom.
