Oleta Bates Obituary

Oleta Jane Bates Devoted wife, mother and beloved Grammie was born February 9, 1943. She peacefully passed surrounded by family on October 24, 2010, joining other family members that had passed before her. Oleta was an AMAZING and INDEPENDENT woman. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and was an overall wonderful homemaker; and even wrote a cookbook for her family called "Cooking with Grammie". Oleta was also passionate in her political beliefs, and let them be known through her regular letters to the editor. Oleta owned and operated Crown Interiors for many years until her recent retirement. She is survived by her husband and best friend Paul; they would have celebrated their 50th anniversary next month. She is also survived by her sons Larry and his wife Toni, Perry and his wife Lisa, grandchildren Cody, Kirsty and Macee Bates, and Lauren and Lindsay Davey, sisters Wanda Wilson, Ruth Hair and Pat Harris, and numerous nieces and nephews. Oleta also had a special love for her canine companions Bobby and Jenny. At Oleta's request, no services formal services will be held. The family has requested donations be made to Phoenix Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Eversole Mortuary.

What wonderful memories we have of Oleta. I remember how kind she was to my mother when she lost her husband years ago. We'll miss you Oleta and miss seeing you on friday nights at Club Calpella. Your family will be in our prayers.

I am so sorry to hear of her passing. I, over the years, did a lot of painting for her and Paul at their business and at their home. She was a wonderful lady and went out of her way to help me afford carpet for my own home. She will be missed.
