Dear Dickson Family, We don't know each other, and I never knew your son. I was reading the NY Post this evening, and his wonderful face in the picture reached out and made me take notice. Sometimes, that's all it takes to see how special some people are. If a picture speaks a thousand words, then that picture speaks absolute volumes. About him- and about you.I wish I Did get to meet Donovan- if I may take that liberty. It's more than obvious that he had an infectious, genuine, loving spirit, and I grieve for your loss. I've never done this before, but was So moved by all the beautiful testimonies to your son and brother- that I want you to know that his smile and empathy is sensed to be as genuine as it gets- even to complete ' strangers' , such as myself. Im so sorry for your loss. Thankyou.

It has been years since I left St. Paul's but this news reminds me of how special that place truly was in my life. Doug and his family hold a special place in the memories I took with me. I watched all of the Dickson boys grow up in the years I spent at SPS and I looked on as their parents loved them and hoped that one day I would experience the same with my children. I remember Donny so clearly...
My heart goes out to Doug, Laurie, Bowman and Mackswell. I will keep you in my prayers and hope that your love for each other will carry you through this tragedy.

Dear Dickson Family:
I did not know any of you, but after reading about your "beloved Donny", one can only assume that a life so full and well-lived may have accomplished what he was meant to do here on earth and was needed "elsewhere" to do "other things". My heart is so full of pride for a young man I didnt even know, and great sadness, too, for a young life so good to be taken out of a world that truly needs that kind of goodness. It sounds like he touched so many people in different ways during his short time on earth; perhaps they will "pay it forward" and to perpetuate the memory of who he was. ~ A Friend You Haven't Met ~

We have been part of the Peddie Community, as parents, for many years. Mr. Dickson was an incredibly talented addition to the Peddie faculty on so many levels. He was a superb math teacher. His warm heart, genuine sense of humor and ability to make kids feel as if he truly wanted them to have a great day, each and every time he saw them, was a gift. Through his smile and his words one knew he was very special.
The immense sadness felt upon learning of his passing, has extended far beyond the campus of Peddie. Last year's graduating class members have reached out from wherever they now are in the world, to help comfort one another during this unbelievably difficult and sad time. Mr. and Mrs. Dickson, your son had a profound and positive influence on so many young lives. Thank you for raising such a wonderful young man. The love and gratitude that people feel for him will live on. Ala Viva, Mr. Dickson, you will be so deeply missed by so many.

I met Donny at his first official Peddie faculty day in June 2011 and thought he had an aura about him that made him unforgettable. I watched how wonderfully he infused happiness and joy into our community.. and how well he was embraced by so many... He had qualities that very few have anymore...Being a long time Peddie community member , I felt excited and optimistic that he could become one of our future long term faculty super stars... . What a tragic loss for our community and for humanity at large.

Dear Dickson Family,
I never met Donny, but my son played on the Middlebury Quidditch team with him, and I heard his speech at the 2007 Commencement. What a wonderful young man. He seems to have been a blessing to all who were around him. I am very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I only had six weeks with Donny this summer at ASP, but within those six weeks he influenced my life so much. He always able to put a smile on anyone's face even if they were having a hard day. Whether it was his amazing dance moves, his cheerful character or just his amazing personality, Donny had a truly positive impact on my life and I will always remember him. I am terribly sorry for his family's loss.

I attended ASP 2013 and Donny was a huge part of making ASP what it was. He was so outgoing and bubbly. I will remember him by his majestic dance moves that he rocked out during Triangle of Fun and his all around friendliness. He will always be in my heart and my memories. I wish the family the best in this hard time.

I didn't get to know Donny very well on a personal level, but he is forever a Belknapper and many of his closest friends from camp are good friends of mine as well. I remember him as an LC when I was a younger camper. Donny clearly exemplified everything a true Belknap leader is: kindness, joy, care for others. Though too short, I know his life was spent making immeasurable positive impacts on all he knew.
Friends from Belknap are brothers. Donny's my brother and I, and all Belknappers who knew him, miss him. But I'm glad I met him.

Dear Mr. Dickson,
Thank you for being such a great teacher and friend. It was always so much fun playing with Moose and Penny during study hall. I'll never forget those times and whenever I think of you, that's what I imagine; you were always full of laughter and there was never a dull moment. I'll never be able to give a teacher as much sass as I gave you. Thanks for always encouraging me, making me feel proud of myself, and being so positive.

To the Dickson family,
Such deep sadness when I heard this news, such a great loss to the communities he worked in. My niece, passed at 16 years old, track runners came from all over, I remember thinking wow, look at how many lives she touched in such a short period of time. I knew she was special, but was in awe of the stories people had of her. Donny is like that. He made the most of every minute, he touched people in ways you will not know for years to come, until the stories start to trickle thru. And that young man, that you already knew was such a joy, such a giver, such an inspiration to others will continue to give you the strength to get through these days to come. He left you all so many memories, cherish them, talk of them and laugh about them. He will like that. Laura, you have loved your boys so much, I am so sorry, and I am thinking of you. Take care. Dear Dickson Family,
Your loss has touched four generations of our family. Rachel, Mariah, and Amani were privileged to know Donny much better than I, but I will always be thankful for the grace and kindness with which Donny helped make my 90-year old Mom's skydiving adventure (this past August 21st with Mike) one of the most joyful moments of her life.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all,

I attended the St. Paul's Advanced Studies Program this past summer, and I remember Donny as being so much of it. He was there for every event, and could always make anyone smile. I remember when he brought our famous "ASP Water-bottles" to the dorm, and how excited he was. He was full of joy and helped to make the summer possible through his constant smiles and positive attitude. My prayers go to his family.

I am the parent of a Peddie student, and first met Mr. Dickson as he was introduced to the incoming Freshman parents as a brand new teacher. Donny had a great smile, a great sense of energy and purpose, a charming personality, and was the sort of person anyone would admire and cherish as a mentor or friend. He was a natural leader and a role model for my son who was a reluctant cross country runner his first semester, and who found a new "family" on the team.
Personally, I remember Donny from the cross country meets where he would run around making sure everyone and everything was OK, and from early evening chance meetings while he was walking his dogs across the Frisbee field in front of the Freshman dorms. He had a relaxed, genuine manner with the students he met.
Donny was a remarkable man who deserves to be remembered for many things, including his positive contributions to the Peddie Community. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss.

I met Donny as a student at ASP in 2011, when he was an intern. He brought smiles to everyone's faces effortlessly and was one of the greatest role models I have ever had. Words can't describe how sorry I am. When my friends and family who never met Donny heard what happened, they all said to me how sorry they were, and that "he must have been pretty spectacular, since he was all you talked about for months after ASP." That's right, after ASP, Donny was always my first example of explaining how awesome it was. I remember the talk he gave at Chapel about his adventures as a young Donny more than any other speech given at ASP, probably because I laughed so hard that I cried. His memory, kindness, sense of humor, and pure joy he brought to the world will forever live on.

My condolences to your family. I only met Donny once at the college fair at ASP. He was one of more than hundreds in a crowd and one of countless to whom I was introduced by my daughter who was a student that summer. When my daughter shared the tragic news, I immediately recalled Donny from that brief encounter summer of 2012. No prompting was needed. He was one who, through infectious spirit, leaves a mark indelibly on those fortunate enough to know him, if briefly for some of us.

Dear Doug, Laurie, Mackswell and Bowman:
I read of the sudden death of Donny today. My heart is broken for all of you and I feel deeply your pain. I was reminded that Cliff and Donny shared the same birthdate, both a sad irony but also a symbol of the wonder, vigor and love which they both brought into the world and especially the lives of their families. Cliff respected Donny and considered himself his friend. Please find strength and meaning in Donny's memory. You should nurture it for the rest of your lives.
With deepest sympathy,
Lee

In 2008 I went to the Quidditch World Cup in Middlebury with my family. They had been the year before and told me all about this amazing snitch runner. We watched as he climbed trees, rode a bike through the pitch, waived from the window of the nearby building, and danced on the roof of the Skinny Pancake truck. At one point someone in disguise turned out to be the snitch. My young son was thrilled. “Mom, he was sitting right next to me!” His antics amazed the crowed, and he never seemed to tire. He also seemed like a really great guy.
The next year when we went back to watch the world cup, my son was wearing his Halloween costume. He was dressed as a snitch runner. Not just any snitch runner, he was Donny Dixon.
That year Donny wasn't snitching. We never got to meet him, but we were big fans.

Dear Laurie, Doug and Boys,
I am so sorry. My heart aches for all of you. I have so many fond memories of Donny and Nate (Mosseau)laughing and playing so enthusiastically, no matter what they were doing. They created a special energy when they played together and that energy fueled much joy.
Having lost a brother at a young age, Laurie and Doug, I know there is no greater loss for parents, and Maxwell and Bowman, lean on each other. You will need to do this for yourselves and your parents.
I hold you all in my heart and prayers.

Mr. Dickson was my algebra teacher at Peddie, but more importantly my friend. He had an infectious spirit of eternal happiness. He wasn't at Peddie for long, but he changed this place and made an indelible mark on his students. He will forever be a Falcon in my eyes. I'm lucky to have known you Mr. Dickson, and I wish you luck on your next great journey.
