James Vergas Obituary

MANCHESTER - James Timothy Vergas passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side on Feb. 25, 2013.

He was born in Manchester on June 18, 1922, the son of Soterios and Hariklea (Politou) Vergas.

Jim attended Manchester Central High School prior to entering the U .S. Army, serving during World War II and earning two Battle Stars. Jim retired from the Manchester Fire Department. He was a member of the Manchester Artist Association and an avid cartoonist and painter. He also had a love-hate relationship with the Boston Red Sox and poker machines.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jeannette (nee' Jutras) Vergas; a daughter, Gail Traverse and her husband, Jim of Manchester; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by two daughters, Sandra Doyle Pitman, and Janet Belcher; a sister; and four brothers.
