Rene Fillion Obituary

LITTLETON - Rene S. Fillion, 81, Pleasant Street, died peacefully at home with family by his side on Sept. 4, 2012. He was born in Gilman, Vt., in October 1930, the son of Rosario and Evelyn (Fontaine) Fillion. He attended Gilman Elementary and Littleton High School.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Feb. 13, 1952. He served in Germany and received the rank of corporal.

Rene worked in communications and received a medal for sharpshooting.

Rene married his high school sweetheart Loretta Paro, July 27, 1952, at Fort Dix, N.J. After he was discharged from the service, they and Loretta's parents enjoyed a six-week trip visiting 33 states, Canada, and Mexico.

Rene worked for Gilman Paper Co. for 18 years as a slitter operator. He opened the state liquor store in Lisbon and then operated the Littleton liquor store as a manager, working for the state for 22 years.

He enjoyed bowling, square dancing, their cottage at Joes Pond in Vermont, reading and gardening. He was also a Red Sox fan.

His family was very important to him and he enjoyed spending time with them.

He is survived by his wife Loretta of Littleton; a daughter, Sandra Roberts, and her husband, Mark; a son, Stanley Fillion, and his wife, Terri; five grandchildren, Samantha, Heather, Rachel, Kevin Fillion and Derek Roberts; one great-grandson, Evan; a brother. Armond Fillion, St. Johnsbury, Vt.; a sister, Evelyn Worster, Gilman, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews.

services:A friends and family gathering with be held at the Ross Funeral Home, Littleton Chapel, Thursday, Sept. 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church Friday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. followed by interment in Wheeler Hill Cemetery.

Dear Loretta, Sandra, Stan and family, we are so saddened at the passing of Rene. Although I only had the opportunity to have met him once, he was so nice, so sweet, I immediately felt connected.
I wish we could be there in person but trust me, we are there in spirit. Our thoughts & prayers are with you all at this difficult time.
