BRISTOL -- Walter Malcolm Plummer, 88, a longtime resident of Bristol, died June 17, 2010, after a long illness.
He was the postmaster in Bristol for more than 20 years and an active member of Cardigan Lodge of Odd Fellows for many years.
During World War II, he served in the 993rd Army Engineers Treadway Bridge Company at the Battle of the Bulge and other areas of the European Theater. He became a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10640 in Bristol and served for many years as a member of the Bristol Fire Department.
Family members include his wife of 60 years, Lorraine (Verrier) Plummer; two daughters, Elaine Kahigian of Haverhill, Mass., and Carol Plummer Tomkiewicz of Campton; son Carl Plummer of Singapore; sister Gladys Tiano of Kittery, Maine; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Kenneth Plummer.
IN HIS LIFE: His family would like all who knew him to remember his dry wit, love for the outdoors -- especially fishing -- and the enjoyment he had when he spent time with his family. They also wish to thank the Golden Crest staff and his physicians for all the kindness and attention he received.
SERVICES: Calling hours are Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Emmons Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bristol. The funeral is Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. John Fischer officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Homeland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bristol Fire Company, 85 Lake St., Bristol 03222; or Cardigan Lodge No. 38 IOOF, c/o John Matthews, Financial Secretary, 105 Cooper Road, Hebron 03241.
