William Cushing Obituary

LINCOLN - William O. Cushing Jr. of Lincoln Green died Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield. He was 89.

Born on April 24, 1923, in Rockland, Mass., he was the son of William O. and Gertrude Smith Cushing.

William grew up in Rockland, Mass., and was a graduate of Rockland High School.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a waist gunner on B-24 Liberators with the 376th Bombardment Group, 15th Air Force.

On May 11, 1945, he married Dorothy V. Burrill. They resided in Massachusetts and moved to New Hampshire in 1961.

He was a self-employed electrician and also worked at Plastic Fabricators in Franklin and then became employed with the Shepard Funeral Home in Tilton.

He then moved to North Woodstock and worked for the La Fontaine Funeral Home in North Woodstock from 1971 to 1976. He retired to Lincoln.

William enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and woodworking.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a son, Alan William Cushing in 1990.

He leaves his loving wife of 67 years Dorothy V. Cushing of Lincoln; a son William O. Cushing III and his wife Brooke of Cheyenne, Wyoming; two daughters Gail Cushing of Lincoln, and JoAnne Miller of Franklin; four grandchildren: Kara Lancaster, Brandy Miller, Alan Cushing, William Cushing, and Marisa Cushing; seven great-grandchildren, Alan Cushing, Ayden Cushing, Wyatt Cushing, Landen Cushing, Brittany Lancaster, Rebecca Lancaster and Emilee Lancaster.

SERVICES: Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 8, at Fournier-Hale Funeral Home, 144 Main St., North Woodstock.

Burial will follow at Woodstock Cemetery.

A calling hour will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Dot, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I often think of Bill, usually in the context of a funny story from when he worked for my Dad or when I use a skill he taught me. I'm not sure that I'll be able to attend on Sunday, but I want you to know you're very much on my mind. I suspect that the Hereafter is now better organized and a lot more fun with my Dad and Bill on the scene.
