Peter Shookus Obituary

RAYMOND - Peter J. Shookus, 60, died on Aug. 5, 2013, at his home in Raymond, following a long battle with a rare form of leukemia. He was born in Newton, Mass., the son of the late John and Mary (Kusleika) Shookus.

Peter was born April 14, 1953, and grew up in North Reading, Mass.. He graduated from Arlington Regional Vocational Technical School in 1971. He had been a Raymond resident since 1977 when he purchased a lake house on Onway Lake.

Peter was a longtime member of the New Hampshire Motorcycle Rights Organization, Corvette Owners Club, and the Antique Motorcycle Club; a lifetime member of the American Motorcycle Association; and was very active in the Manchester Motorcycle Club (the oldest motorcycle group in the United States, originating in 1915).

A man with more than 40 years of knowledge and experience in the metal industry, he was a master toolmaker, and was owner and operator of Shookus Special Tools Inc. of Raymond since 1985. Any person who knew Peter knew that he was the person to turn to for advice, support or just a shoulder to lean on. He was always there for you. That was the loving and caring person Peter was.

He is survived by his wife Lori Shookus of Raymond; his son Jason Shookus of Raymond; two daughters, Jessica Robinson of Raymond and Amy Young of Franklin; three grandchildren, Lydon Vallee, Parker Young and Chloe Shookus; and his close extended family members, Frances Wright, Todd Skilton, and Our Shookus Team.

Peter, will be tremendously missed. He was a special dear friend to many and achieved great success in his business life and family life. A mentor to so many people. I will miss our conversations on solving the problems of the world. Just a few more years and the world would have been fixed. He built a respected business and leaves a wonderful group to continue the Shookus legacy. He was a true leader and problem solver is all areas of his life. My heart felt sorrow to Lori, and all of Peter's family and friends.

Peter, I will miss you my dear friend and I have a feeling that you and John are meeting and again and have already begun a new partnership. You taught me many things about the "business" that I will carry forever but most important is what you taught us all, is to live life to the fullest and make it on your terms. Ride hard, ride strong. I will always miss you.

Another Biker Who Has Gone Down

I'm sorry, friends, that I can't be with you here today.
If you're all gathered reading this, it means I've passed away.
But if I were there I'd tell you not to shed a tear or frown.
I'd tell you just to simply say, “Another Biker has gone down.”

If I were there I'd tell you I have no more pain or strife,
That I loved my friends and family, and I had a wonderful life.
If I were there, I'd tell you how I loved the small blue highways,
I loved the curving mountain roads, and I loved to ride the back-road byways.

I loved to be “in the wind”. I loved when that engine rumbled,
And the biker friends who rode with me would help me when I stumbled.
You are amongst my dearest friends, brothers and sisters of the road,
We've traveled many miles together; shared many heavy loads…

If I could be there with you, we'd laugh and share memories from our past,
And this gathering would be just one more tale, another story, not our last.
But today I can't be with you, except in heart and memory stores.
So you'll have to laugh, remember the past, and then let you engines roar!
Please smile and do not shed a tear, wipe away that silly frown,
I'm off upon that final ride, another Biker who has gone down.

...We'll miss working with you Pete.
Thanks for all your help and guidance over the years...
