Veronica J. Spooner, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, February 25, 2014, at the St. Luke's Home, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Oriskany Falls on January 12, 1930, the daughter of the late William and Jadwiga Zombek. Veronica attended school at the one room school house in Oriskany Falls until the eighth grade and later graduated from Madison High School. On July 3, 1948, in Clinton, she married Maurice G. Spooner, Jr. Their loving union lasted over 64 years until Maurice's passing in 2012. Veronica retired from SUNY Morrisville, where she had worked as a Technical Assistant. She had previously worked as the Food Service Manager for the former Oriskany Falls School District. She had also worked at the Barker Brook Golf Course and as the Town of Augusta Tax Collector for many years. Veronica will most be remembered as a devoted loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Veronica is survived by her beloved children and their spouses, Terrence and Christine Spooner, of Oriskany Falls, Larry and Terry Ann Spooner, of Madison, and Laurie and Eric Larsen, of Poughkeepsie; two sisters, Helen Krupa, of Franklin Springs, and Genevieve Johnson, of Pine Woods; eight beloved grandchildren; nine beloved great-grandchildren, and two more on the way; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends. Veronica was predeceased by her husband, Maurice; her brothers, Joe, John and Stanley Zombek; her sister, Wanda; and her half-brother, Andrew Bladek. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 1:00 PM at the Paul Funeral Home of Madison, with the Rev. Vincent Kelly officiating. Spring interment will be in Madison Cemetery. In keeping with Veronica's wishes, there will be no calling hours.
