Anthony De Minco Obituary

Anthony P. (Tony) De Minco 1922 - 2016
NEW HARTFORD- Anthony P. De Minco (Tony), 94, formerly of Stokes-Lee Center Road and later of Preswick Glen, New Hartford, passed on to his greater glory, after a short illness, on September 30, 2016.
Tony was a native of Yonkers, NY, and the son of Anthony and Rose De Minco. An alumnus of Manhattan College, he also attended NYU for a degree in Electrical Engineering.
On April 3, 1948, he married his talented and beautiful wife, Leda, the union of which lasted for over 60 years. (Leda passed in 2008.)
Prior to his marriage, Tony served in the US Signal Corps and saw duty in the Pacific in the China/Burma/India theater. He, Leda and an infant son moved to Rome, NY, with the Watson Labs, which became the Rome Air Development Center (RADC) in late 1950. During his tenure, he authored and presented many technical papers related to Data Displays, Radiation Hazards and Computer Technologies. He retired from RADC as a Supervisory Electronic Engineer in 1977.
He was always civic minded, volunteering hundreds of hours to activities spanning the Town of Lee Zoning Board of Appeals, assisting in the implementation of the Lee Water District, serving on the Board of Directors as Treasurer and Chairman for the Rome Chapter of the American Red Cross, among many other activities. He humbly served as a communicant of St. Joseph's Church as an usher for over 50 years as well as a Senior Trustee for over 35 years.
He was a senior member of the I.E.E.E., life member of the Rome Historical Society, a trustee and member of the Rome Academy of Sciences, and active with the judging of the Rome Science Fair. He served untiringly, supporting the belief that "one must give something back to life, not only take".
Surviving are his three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Lynne, of West Friendship, MD, Stephen and Carole, of Darnestown, MD, and Chris and partner, Vickie, as well as former wife, Marcia, of the Rochester area; six beloved grandchildren (Gregory, Jennifer, Stephen, Kristen, Jessica and Lauren); as well as two great-grandchildren (Lila and Drew). As an avid traveler, Tony seeks one more venture, to be accepted and pass through the Pearly Gates, so he may rekindle his association with his many relatives and friends who have gone before him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on November 12 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church, Lee Center, followed by interment at Evergreen Cemetery in Stokes.
Contributions in Tony's memory can be made to the American Red Cross, Rome Chapter, 303 West Liberty Street, Rome NY 13440 or to St. Joseph's Church Building Fund, 5748 Stokes Lee Center Road, Lee Center, NY 13363.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
