Flynn, Jr.
ROME
Charles E. "Charlie" Flynn, Jr., 74, of Rome, passed away on August 6, 2015, at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born July 2, 1941, in Saratoga Springs, NY, the son of Charles and Agnes Zuend Flynn, Sr. He was a graduate of St. Peter's High School in Saratoga and Manhattan College with a degree in mechanical engineering. He later earned his MBA from Oklahoma City University. On August 19, 1967, he married Meredith "Meree" Baughan in St. Paul's Church in Cranston, RI. Charlie served in the US Air Force from 1963-1968. Upon his discharge, he moved to Rome and went to work for Mohawk Airlines. In 1971, he started working at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Griffiss Air Force Base and worked there until retiring in 2008. He was a member of St. Peter's Church. Charlie was also very active in local soccer. He was a founding member of AYSO Soccer in the Town of Lee and he developed the fields at the Town Park and Stokes School. However, his real passion was photography. He could be seen at events throughout the area, capturing all the action from behind his lens. Surviving besides his beloved wife of 47 years, Meree, is a daughter, Kirstin Impicciatore, of Rome; a son, Charles J. Flynn, of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Cynthia (Thomas) Gardner and Elizabeth Graham, of Gansevoort; two precious grandchildren, Lauren and Nicholas Impicciatore; his mother-in-law, Alice Burdett, of Cary, NC; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph and Sharon Baughan, of Holly Springs, NC; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a grandson, Filippo Impicciatore. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:45 a.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Church with the Rev. Philip Hearn officiating. Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Charlie's memory may be made to the Rome Humane Society. My beloved friend and mentor from the old 485th days. Charlie and I travelled Europe and the Mideast; we trekked through Germany and England; sailed down the Rhine and climbed the stairway to Heidelberg Castle. His humor and wit were constant companions during those memorable forays. What a wonderful friend I've lost: I'll pray for Meree and the family; but Charlie, we'll meet again in a more glorious venue. I look forward to seeing you again, my old friend! God Bless!

A sad, sad day. Charlie was a mentor, colleague and friend. I will never forget his amazing ability to reach into a pile of paper three feet tall and grab exactly what he needed, or his stage presence in San Antonio. A kind man, generous with his knowledge and always willing to help - he will be missed. My deepest sympathy to Meree and his family.

Sincere sympathy to Charlie's family. He was a student @ Saint Peter's Academy, Saratoga Springs, when I went there. He was always a gentleman, kind to everyone. RIP Charlie.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
