Catherine Ann "Cathy" McCall 1946 - 2017
VERNON - Catherine Ann "Cathy" McCall, age 71, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017 in the comfort of her home after a brave struggle with Lymphoma.
Born in Yonkers, NY on June 5, 1946, Catherine was the daughter of the late Ambrose V., Jr. and Bette (Flynn) McCall. Raised and educated in Yonkers, she was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School. She furthered her studies at the University of Dayton where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She went on to earn her Masters degree in Special Education from Manhattan College in the Bronx. She also received two Masters degrees from Fordham University in Counseling and Administration. Cathy was dedicated to advising and meeting the needs of her students during her career as a Guidance Counselor at Rome Free Academy, the position from which she retired in 2010 after more than 20 years of service.
Cathy also had a calling for adventure that she pursued through traveling and exploring new places. She loved Alaska and the awesome auroras in the Northern Lights. She was great at the game of golf and had a preference for the sport of hockey, particularly the Utica Comets. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church.
Cathy is survived by her sisters and brother-in-law, Dr. Marybeth K. McCall and Dr. Frank Dubeck, and Maureen J. McCall, all of Utica; and her brother and sister-in-law, Thomas A. and Karen McCall of Frisco, Texas. She also leaves her nieces and nephews, Beth Dubeck and her husband Matthew Schiller, Thomas and Jessica Dubeck; Joseph and Liz Benincasa, Connor Benincasa; David and Katherine McCall, and Christina McCall; great-nieces and great-nephews, especially acknowledging Abigail, David, Maxwell; Joseph, Courtney; and Joey; and her cousins, with special mention of Tara Kenny with whom she shared a special bond.
In keeping with Cathy's wishes, there will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Catherine's Memorial Service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday morning, January 13th at 11:00 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church where her Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Tom Servatius. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. By family request please omit floral offerings.
