Kirk Hudson Obituary

Rev. Kirk A. Hudson 1929 - 2017
NEW HARTFORD, NY - Rev. Kirk A. Hudson, 88, of New Hartford and formerly of Waterville, died on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at his home.
Kirk was charismatic and filled a room with his presence. He was always ready to lend a hand and has touched the lives of many people. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and kindness. By the power of God he saw people as they are and not by their flaws.
He was born on May 5, 1929, in Albion, NY, a son of the late Kirk Davis and Charlotte Crego Hudson. Kirk enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean War and graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1953. While at St. Lawrence University, he sang tenor and traveled all over Europe performing with the university choir. Also while at St. Lawrence, he married Carolyn Pruyn on September 6, 1952, in Albany. He was also part of the ROTC program at St. Lawrence and after graduation he served in the United States Army. Following serving in the Army, he graduated from Princeton Seminary and was ordained as a Presbyterian Minister. He later graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a PhD.
Kirk received his first assignment as a Presbyterian Minister in Sykesville, NJ. He continued to serve Presbyterian churches in New Egypt, NJ, Lancaster County, PA, Pittsburgh, PA and Midland, MI. He later served as Interim Pastor at New Hartford Presbyterian Church and finished at First Presbyterian Church, Utica.
Kirk was very proud to work with Father Fred Daley in starting the Hope House, where he served on the Board for many years. He was also a member of area Rotary Clubs. In 2014, Kirk was presented the Richard W. Cooper Living Legend Award. Kirk and Carolyn were awarded the Health Friends of the year in 2016.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Hudson, of New Hartford; children, Carolyn Hudson, of Empire, MI, Elizabeth Purcell and her husband, Marc, of Manhattan Beach, CA and Robert Hudson, of East Lansing, MI; grandson, Kirk D. Bacon and his wife, Esther; great-granddaughter, Kai J. Bacon; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Kirk Andrew Hudson; and grandson, Adam C. Bacon.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers for all the special care given to Kirk, especially Teresa Coss and Jaime Kirley.
A Memorial Service will be on Wednesday at 10:00 at the First Presbyterian Church, Genesee St., Utica. Interment will be in Pine View Cemetery, Queensberry, NY, at the convenience of the family. Reception to follow and directions will be given at the church.
Arrangements are with the Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, New Hartford.
In lieu of flowers, please consider the Hope House in memory of Kirk.

Kirk was an extraordinary person. I will remember fondly all of my memories of him when I served as the director of UNRC. His kindness and humor always got us on the right track. I know without a doubt that he was welcomed into heaven with a greeting of " Well done good and faithful servant". What an example he set for all.
