Kathaleen E. "Kate" Whitaker, 77, peacefully went home to be with her lord on Sunday, April 12, 2015. Kate was born in Brookfield on June 3, 1937, the daughter of the late Barton and Ada Cross Owen. She was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband of 51 years, Kenneth Whitaker, on March 10, 2014. Kate was famous for her baked goods and was known as the "Pie Baker" of Brookfield. Kate was loved by all that knew her and her family and friends were always close to her heart. She touched the life of everyone who ever met her. Kate was born into a family of thirteen children. She is survived by her beloved children, Melinda Shipman and her fiance, Chuck Moniz, Michael Whitaker, and Debbie and Art Woolsey; three beloved grandchildren, Tiffany and Matt Burr, Christian and Sean Dewey, and a very special beloved grandson, Darin Penner. Kate is also survived by three beloved great-grandchildren, Kaylin and Brandon Burr, and Wyatt Dewey. In keeping with Kate's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Celebration of Kate's Life will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2015, at 2 PM at the Brookfield Baptist Church. Kate's funeral arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Jeffrey T.
