James A. (Jim)

James A. Noffer, 82, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at his residence, after a long illness, with his loving family by his side. He was born October 18, 1932, in Ilion, NY, the son of Albert and Elizabeth VanValkenburgh Noffer. He was a graduate of Ilion High School, the class of 1951. On January 26, 1957, he married Nancy Bower, the mother of his children. He later married Barbara Pazdur Hojnacki in Rome on August 18, 1989. Jim was employed at Carparelli Brothers for over thirty years, retiring in 1994 as an Office Manager. He was also a part-time Police Officer for the Herkimer Police Department. Jim proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of Transfiguration Church, American Legion, Teamsters Local 182, South Rome Senior Center, Rome Polish Home and the United Polka League. Jim loved to travel, hunt, fish, dance, play bingo and play cards. He will always be remembered for being a fun loving guy. Surviving besides his wife, Barbara, are two daughters and a son-in-law, Diane Dicob, of Mohawk, and Susan and Delbert Ball, of Herkimer; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Dawn, of Little Falls, and Timothy and Christie, of Ilion; one sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Richard Houck, of Florida; a daughter-in-law, Christine Noffer, of Newport; nine grandchildren, Brad Sherwood (Megan Tolman), Jennifer Dicob, Erika and Megan Ball, Jason (Catrina), Jordan, Kirsten, Cody, Bailey and Dylan Noffer; eight great-grandchildren, Taylor, Aryanna, Aubrie, Christina, Samantha, Isabella, Hazel and Keilan; and step-grandchildren, Joseph (Shauna) Moshier, Chuck Eaker and Michael Jackson. Also surviving are stepchildren, Debbie (Larry) Roberts, of Rome, and Joe (Andrea) Hojnacki, of Rome; sister-in-law, Barbara Pazdur; brother-in-law, Joe (Mary) Pazdur; step-grandchildren, R.J., Rachael and Robbie Hojnacki, and Barbara (Joe) Klis; and step-great-grandchildren, Jaydin and Joey. He was predeceased by his son, Michael; son-in-law, Donald Dicob; brother-in-law, Frank Pazdur; and sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Walt Siepiola. The family wishes to express their gratitude to their family, friends and neighbors during Jim's long illness for their wonderful love and support. Special thanks goes out to Kathy and Tom. Funeral will be held Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome, and 11:00 a.m. at Transfiguration Church, where a Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Paul F. Angellichio.
