Doris R. (Zambon) Palmano 1920 - 2016
NEW HARTFORD - With the sun lighting her way, our beloved mother, Doris R. (Zambon) Palmano, passed into the embrace of the Lord on Thursday, October 27, 2016, while in the comfort of her home.
Doris was born in Utica, NY, on January 21, 1920. She was the eldest of eleven children born to Hamil and Irene (Doyle) Zambon. She and her family resided in Chadwicks, NY, where Doris received her childhood education.
On June 3, 1941, she was joined in marriage to Santo R. Palmano, a loving union of 48 years, prior to his passing on November 27, 1999.
Being born into a large family, Doris knew the importance of a value system in one's home life. She instilled in all of us those values of honesty, selflessness, compassion, courtesy and loyalty. These ingredients, in her mind, made a cohesive family. Family is everything.
Doris devoted her early years to raising her family. When those obligations ended, she took time for herself. She became active in St. John's Women's Club, the New Hartford American Legion Women's Auxiliary and the Dancing Dolls, which she loved dearly.
Upon her retirement, Doris and Santo wintered in Florida. They met many new friends and had wonderful experiences. These truly were their "Golden Years".
The past four years required that Doris have around-the-clock care. Dawn, her loving granddaughter, became her caregiver. Doris's wish was to be able to remain in her home until the end. Dawn's incredible care made this possible. For that, we are all truly grateful.
In addition to Dawn, we would like to thank Julie Dellenbeck, CNA, who helped Dawn on many occasions when one person was not enough, and Dr. Arul Kannan, for his guidance, wisdom, and compassion.
Doris leaves her children and their spouses: Barbara and David Kortz, and their children, Kelly and Paul, John and Alice Palmano, and their children, John, Mark, David, and Dawn, Richard and Theresa Palmano, and their son, Ritchie, Ann and John Reilly, and their daughter, Maura, Mary and John Ziegler, and their children, Lauren and John; and also Cynthia's daughter, Lisa. She leaves her great-grandchildren, Ashley, Jennifer, Leanna, Kaitlin, Adelyn, Michael, Sophie, Mackenzie, David, Jonah, Jude and Sofia. She leaves her four wonderful sisters, Helen Raino, Margaret Hillman, Mary Simmons and Sandra Doyle. She was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Cynthia, who passed away in 2003; and her granddaughter, Renee Palmano, who passed away in 1995.
As per Doris's wishes, there will be no public calling hours. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are with the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, in her memory.
