Patricia Carter Obituary

Carter, Patricia Moore SAN DIEGO -- Patricia Moore Carter passed away peacefully at home on October 7, 2014 with loving family present. She was born March 3, 1927 to Mildred Middleton Moore and Guy Sherwood Moore and was a lifelong resident of San Diego. Pat raised four daughters with her first husband, Fred H. Rohr, Jr., instilling the values of independence, fairness, and contribution to community, as well as the importance of education. While her oldest children were in high school, Pat finished her Bachelors degree at San Diego State College, a pursuit that had been interrupted earlier by marriage and family. After losing Fred to the effects of polio, Pat was fortunate to be introduced to recent widower Hugh C. Carter. Pat and Hugh married and spent over 40 wonderful years together, sharing a love of travel, community involvement, the arts and the company of good friends. Hugh brought four children to the marriage, and family was a major focus of Pat and Hugh's life together. Children, grandchildren and eventually great grandchildren were warmly welcomed to Pat and Hugh's bayside home, usually a few at a time to receive special attention. Pat and Hugh hosted regular three and four-generation family reunions on the Oregon coast and later in San Diego to enjoy their large family and maintain family unity. Pat's primary community interest was the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, where she contributed many years of thoughtful stewardship on the board of trustees. She also served on the board of The Bishop's School, and of Rest Haven Children's Health Fund. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of San Diego, was a Charity Ball chairman, a member of the Wednesday Club and the San Diego Yacht Club. In her last few years, as Pat's health and memory declined, she faced her new circumstances with wit and humor, plus a sweetness and appreciation for all those around her. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, charitable contributions in Pat's memory be made to the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center or the Girl Scouts of San Diego. Pat is survived by children: Candice, Carolyn, Christine, Claudia, John, Daniel, James and Lisabeth; grandchildren: Jason, Ryan, Jennifer, Rory, David, Helen and Daniel; and great-grandchildren: Trinity, Kai, Tia, Maddalena, Anna, Suzie and Charlie. Pat is predeceased by her husband, Hugh; her sister, Geraldine; brothers, Bill, Guy and Homer; granddaughter, Kimberly; and great- grandson, Eldon. The family will gather at a later date for a private memorial.
