Thomas C. Todd

Todd, Thomas C. CARLSBAD -- Thomas C. Todd, a long time resident of the Chicago North Shore died peacefully in his sleep on October 1, 2013, at his winter home in Carlsbad, California. His Illinois home was in Northfield, Illinois Tom was born in Morning Sun, Iowa on December 25, 1921, to Velma and Calvin Todd. He graduated from Mediapolis, Iowa High School in 1939 and attended Parsons College on a basketball scholarship. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1942; went to boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina; and then to Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia. He served in the Marine Corps in World War II and was later recalled for the Korean War, rising to the rank of Captain. He completed his education and graduated from the University of Iowa Business School in 1947. Tom had a 47 year long career in the Chevrolet dealership business in the Chicago area. He started in Chicago in 1952 and moved to Wheeling, Illinois in 1968. He was the first Chevrolet dealer to move from the city to the suburbs. He sold Tom Todd Chevrolet to his general manager, Bill Stasek, in 1998. His avocation was golf. He played many famous courses around the world, and most of the 100 Greatest Golf Courses in the United States. He was a member of Westmoreland Country Club for 58 years, serving as its President in 1979-1980. Survivors include his wife, Lois, three daughters, Mary Ellen Fine (David) of Madison, Wisconsin, Jane Fabry (Mike) of Austin, Texas, Nancy Boyk (Bill) of Naperville, Illinois, and one son Tom (Kara) of Palatine, Illinois, and seven grandchildren. His parents and only brother, Kenneth, of Mediapolis, Iowa, preceded him in death. Services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Evans Scholarship Foundation, One Briar Lane, Golf, Illinois.
