Moises Salas Obituary
Moises M. Salas, Jr. 49, of Harlingen entered into rest June 23, 2012.
He is survived by his loving family; sons, Gregorio Salas and Esteban Salas of Harlingen; mother of his children, Grace Salas of Harlingen; parents, Moises Sr. and Paula Salas of Luling; brother, Hector (Diane) Salas of Lockhart, TX, four sisters, Leticia (Sam) Chapa of Kyle, TX, Cynthia (Joe) Hunter of Luling, TX, Matilde Salas of Austin, TX., and Jessica (Joey) Natal of Shiner, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
He graduated from St. Edward's University and the University of Texas Law School. Moises was the President of the Cameron County Bar Assoc. and practiced law in Brownsville.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2012 from 10am to 9pm and a holy rosary will be prayed at 7pm.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 28, 2012 departing at 9:30am for 10am Mass of Christian burial at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Msgr. Briseno as Celebrant and interment will follow at Restlawn Cemetery.
Moises was a devoted father and Christian man and wil be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home of Harlingen.

I wish I had stayed in touch. I met him when I started 7th grade there in Luling. He gave me my very first kiss. At first I had no idea who he was because he would write me notes signed your secret admirer. I loved the times when we would play volleyball & hanging out. I will treasure the times we had during my time there.

Despite the length of time that it took me to discover his death (5 min's ago) I am shocked and now understand why he hasn't been in touch. He was indeed a wonderful father. My heart goes out to his children. They had the most loving dad ever. He was a friend and I would love to speak to a relative about him. He spoke of his family and I visited him from PA. He obviously passed soon after my last email and my platonic visit with him. He is indeed in a better place. He was a true believer and bypassed great political opportunities for the Lord. He certainly left us way too soon! A WONDERFUL person!

It is only today that I learn of the passing of my friend. I can recall the times that Moses and I sat in his dorm room at St. Edward's when we made resolve to commit our lives to being men of love and honor. I know that Moses upheld his commitment in every respect such that a man can, with humility that we are always imperfect but strive and hope to be better.
And part of being a man of love is, when the tide has turned against us, not hiding from those we love as I did from Moses. And so today is the day that I sought him out to be reunited in loving embrace, and now my devastation. So to you my friends I say do not let this day pass without showing love and affection to whom you can in whatever way, but especially with those with whom you share a love of any type. I always viewed you as the perfect father. The way you treated the boys, raised them, and taught them so much about life and God. It was so amazing. I always told Greg how lucky he was, and he is. He, and Esteban are so lucky they got to be raised by somebody like you. I remember the time you talked to Greg and I about college, and how we had to go even if that meant getting loans because "nobody can take away your education". I always planned to go to a regular public college, was even thinking of TSTC but you often talked about how great a private school is. So because of you, I applied at St. Mary's University. As soon as I got accepted I told Greg to tell you, I just wanted to see if you were proud of me. I know its silly, since I was just Greg's friend but I really look up to you. I want to be a parent like you once I'm older, I want to be successful and graduate like you, and be closer to God just like you were. I think of you and get really sad till this day, I don't understand why you're gone but I hope I get to meet you in Heaven when the day comes. I hope you also watch over me, like I know you watch over your family. And for Grace, Esteban, and Greg you all have a really great angel watching over you, forever. I hope you, Moises, give them all the strength they need, because I know some days are tough for them. They miss you, especially Greg. I hate that I can't take away the pain from him but I'm so glad that he gets stronger each day and he hasn't given up on school at St. Edwards. You are missed everyday, Moises. I will never forget the stories you told me and Greg, the prayers before dinner when I was over, and the jokes that you would tell from time to time. Until next time..

Its been six months since you entered into the Kingdom. I miss you Moises and pray for you and your family frequently. Your son, husband and father was a mentor to me...in the late 1980's, I walked into State Rep. Lena Guerrero's Capitol office looking for an internship. I found a friend in Lena...she immediately put me to work with her Leg. Aide...a focused and intellectual law student named Moises. I was a wide eyed undergraduate student dreaming of being a lawyer. Moises counseled me..."study Philosophy, James..." he'd say. I followed his advise and just the other night I was counselling my 21 year old nephew..."study Philosophy..." I told him.
Your son, husband and father made a CRITICAL difference in my life. I graduated with a degree in Philosophy and have been practicing law since 1999. I came upon his obituary and felt compelled to write this note...I hadn't spoken with Moises since the late 80's but knew him as a visionary humanitarian...a true intellectual. The world will miss him but his legacy lives on. My deepest condolences...

I was so saddened to hear that Moses passed away. My heart goes out to the Salas family. May his memories keep comfort in your heart. I had the opportunity to use his lawfirm recently for matters needed from our lawfirm in Waco, Texas. It was great to catch up after so many years. The one thing I remember from the conversation was him talking about his children. You could hear in his voice how much he truly loved them. So tragic at such a young age; he will be missed.

Greg and Esteban, I met your father years ago and had the priviledge to call him a friend. I saw him in Court often and always had the highest opinion of his legal abilities and his professional demeanor. Your father accomplished quite a bit and I hope you will always remember that he loved you both very much.
