Gilberto Cavazos Obituary
MERCEDES, TX. --
Gilberto Cavazos, 91 left to rest with the Lord on October 31, 2014 after leading a full and productive life on earth.
He was a man who tried to do good for others. Gilberto was born on October 7, 1923 in Mercedes, Texas, one of 11 children of the late Dionicio and Teodora Cavazos.
He moved to Corpus Christi, Texas and was employed by Southern Alkali (PPG) for 39 years, from 1943 until retirement in 1982. After retirement he found the need to help others by becoming a state volunteer Ombudsman, one who would comfort the sick and stand up for their rights, at the Retama Nursing Home. Also a member of Holy Family and later St. Joseph's Catholic Churches, he loved to read and watch western movies, was active in flea market retailing.
Survived by his son, David Cavazos and wife, Debra of Aiken, South Carolina; his sister Dorotea Vela of Weslaco; and his brothers, Domiciano Cavazos of Mercedes, Texas, Edimiro Cavazos of Portland, Texas, and Alberto Cavazos of Mercedes, Texas. His grandchildren, Tracy Cavazos of Round Rock, Texas, David Cavazos, Jr of Corpus Christi, Texas and Aaron Cavazos of Wilmington, North Carolina; great-grandchildren Madeline Collins, Daniel Jones, and William Cavazos.
The family will receive family and friends from 4pm - 9pm on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Home in Corpus Christi with a Rosary at 7pm that same evening.
There will be a visitation period at 10am until 2pm on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home, 439 South Vermont Ave, Mercedes, Texas with graveside services and burial to following at 2 pm in Anaquitas Cemetery in Mercedes, Texas.
