HARLINGEN, TX. -Carlos F. Ramirez 78, of Harlingen entered into rest Saturday, September 01, 2007. He was born November 4, 1928 in Brownsville, Texas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Olivia; 7 daughters and 2 sons; Olga (Arnold) Salazar, Lydia (Henry) Garza, Linda (Frank) Sanchez, Julie (Avelino) Siller, Frances Anderson, Gracie (George) Flores, Carlos Jr., (Rosa), Jose (Beatrice), Delia (Tony) Chavez, 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was a devoted family man and his family always came first. He was a father, not just by title, but also by his actions. He always did his best to provide for his family, but most importantly, he spent his spare time with his family. His favorite pastimes were, spending time with his children, music, admiring musician's talent, football games and playing bingo.He followed the Harlingen Cardinals football ever since he moved to Harlingen 50 years ago. He was one of the biggest fans of the late ``Santos Gonzales, Jr.'' and the Gonzales boys from Primera, TX. He was presented an autographed football at his 50th wedding anniversary, by the Cardinal team in 1997. His favorite phrase was ``Cardinal Spirit Never Dies'' and ``Go Cardinals Go''. His favorite teams were the Harlingen Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed football, and supported whichever high school teams were in the playoffs.
Carlos was a self-taught appliance repairman. He worked at Mahulah's Appliance in Brownsville, TX as an appliance painter. Through his intelligence and perseverance, he learned to repair appliances.
Carlos was self-employed as an appliance repairman. He will be remembered through out Harlingen and suburbs, as the ``affordable repairman''. His clientele were mostly low-income customers and even if he knew he wasn't going to be paid when he would finish the repair and even if a profit wouldn't be made he would still perform the repair. He will be remembered as a ``kind man'' and will be greatly missed by his family and customers.
Visitation will be Monday, September 3, 2007 from 10am to 9pm and a rosary will be held at 7pm.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2007 departing the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace at 9:30am for a 10:00 am funeral service at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Deacon Genaro Ybarra officiating and interment will follow at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Frank Sanchez, Frank Sanchez, Jr., Carlos Ramirez III, Ave, George Flores and Lupe Ramirez; honorary pallbearers will be his sons.
