Antal Kozak

Antal (Tony) Kozak May 22, 1936 - June 22, 2017 Dr. Antal (Tony) Kozak died peacefully and surrounded by family on June 22, 2017 at the age of 81 after a short illness in Vancouver, his adopted home since 1957. Born in Tiszapüspöki, Hungary, Tony came to Canada as a student with the fabled Sopron Division of the Faculty of Forestry at the University of British Columbia, where he later served as a Professor, Associate Dean, and Professor Emeritus for over five decades. An influential and always dogged scientist and researcher who developed equations used to measure forest volumes, Tony loved teaching the most, training thousands of forestry students and, until recently, providing statistical support to graduate students at the University that was his second home. Possessed of a wicked sense of humour, he was unfailingly honest and honourable, and loved playing tennis, Hungarian card games, and an occasional nip of mediocre Scotch. Tony was a loyal and loving husband and father and is survived by his wife Edit, his children Marietta (Peter) and Rob (Denise), and his stepson Kristof (Dora and their children, Vince and Berta). Per his request, there will be a private interment, with a public memorial to be held at a later date.
